ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Serve the clients of the company by expertly servicing and repairing heating and air conditioning systems and components. • Test each system after each service or repair is completed prior to leaving the customer's home to make sure that the system is working properly. • Build long-lasting relationships with customers through education and exceptional service. Make sure that the client is 100% happy with all work. • Perform a thorough and proper inspection of the customer's system to prevent future breakdowns. • Record the age and type of each system component on every single work order to ensure that the correct technician is sent to the right job. • Provide customer leads to the Sales Lead Coordinator when identifying a potential need for system additions or replacements. • Maintain vehicles that are neat and clean on the inside and outside at all times. QUALIFICATIONS FOR AN EXPERIENCED HVAC SERVICE TECHNICIAN • * Ability to competently maintain, diagnose & repair residential HVAC systems • Excellent customer service skills • Interest in being part of a competitive and productive team • Acceptable driving record and valid license • Basic HVAC hand/power tools • Physical ability to perform the requirements of the position • 5 or more years of experience in residential HVAC service • EPA License A journeyman or master mechanical license is preferred but not required. Responsibilities: • Troubleshoot and repair ventilation and air conditioning systems and equipment • Performs preventive maintenance on equipment to prevent equipment failure by cleaning air handling systems and reheat coils, monitoring and calibrating air handling systems and replacing filters, motors, fans, belts, etc. on systems. • Locate and diagnose problems, assess extent of repairs and describing options and associated costs to the customer. Provides a description of diagnosed problems to customer in terms that can be understood with options, as possible. • Assists with repairs of complete systems to include repairing, calibrating or replacing controls, switches, thermostats, transformers, gauges, wiring fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, piping and other functional components of the system. • Completes all required documentation on services, explains guarantees/warranties and records • Installs, repairs, replaces or cleans refrigerant lines, fans, appliance vents, smoke detectors, humidifiers and grills, as appropriate. • Ensures that all HVAC repairs and installations are accurate, serviceable and that materials used meets the requirements and safety standards/regulatory codes. Inspect and/or test buildings; plumbing, electrical and HVAC equipment and systems, fire sprinkler piping systems and report identified deficiencies. Perform maintenance and repair work on buildings and mechanical systems as assigned from inspections or Computerized Maintenance Management System work orders. Assist in relaying information and serve as a resource by answering questions about job assignments. Work may include but is not limited to tasks such as the following: Inspecting and testing air compressors, fire sprinkler piping systems, grease traps, sewer pumps and other systems and equipment. Patching and painting interior walls and surfaces. Clearing sewage blockages and drain lines. Troubleshooting systems and equipment. Installing and calibrating HVAC controls and actuators of all kinds (for example pneumatic and electric). Locate underground utilities such as natural gas, water, sewer, etc., for dig permits. Record completed repairs using Computerized Maintenance Management System or other University software. Recommend work process improvements to Facilities supervisors and administrators. Perform welding fabrication or sheet metal work as needed. Maintain a professional, safe and clean work area. Provide service support for campus events. Snow removal duties as assigned. Required Qualifications: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent. Graduate of an apprenticeship program or HVAC certification program. Stable/continuous work history. Five years of experience in HVAC and experience troubleshooting equipment controls. Experience with steam boiler operations. Ability to communicate effectively. Ability to read and apply information from schematics and building blueprints. Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record under Washburn's standards. CFC refrigerant recovery certification. Physical Requirements: Ability to move and/or maneuver equipment and materials weighing as much as 50 pounds. Ability to work from a ladder or lift.
