HVAC Technician

Seattle City Light, is one of the nation’s largest municipally owned utilities in terms of the number of customers served. Our team is hiring experienced HVAC Technicians to perform journey-level mechanical work in the installation, maintenance, repair, and operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment (HVAC-R) and related City Light building systems. To perform this work, we required four (4) industry specific licenses are required and listed below. HVAC Technicians are stationed at the South Service Center in Seattle and requires travel to a variety of City Light facilities, including those located in remote locations. Travel can vary from one day up to two weeks. In the job you may be exposed to excessive noise, working at acute heights, and confined areas, requiring adherence to all safety polices, and procedures. The position reports to the Facilities Technical Supervisor. Job Responsibilities: • Operate, maintain, repair, or replace chillers, heat pumps, coolers, refrigeration units, variable air volume systems, air handling units, exhaust systems, condensers, evaporators, water heating units, and cooling towers; replace heating coils, strip heaters, baseboard heaters, thermostats, direct digital control systems, drive units, and circuits. • Replace pneumatic HVAC control systems, Hydronic and steam distribution systems, condensate returns, and associated building temperature controls. • Respond to routine and emergency HVAC calls from supported facilities, ensuring all systems are functioning to standards and meeting customer needs. • Supervise HVAC systems and make vital adjustments to maintain efficient performance. • Coordinate maintenance for HVAC equipment, handle stock of parts and materials, update schedules and reports, and keep equipment history records. • Read, interpret and update blueprints, drawings, and schematics for troubleshooting, project evaluations, verification of system status, and planning purposes. • Troubleshoot electrical, mechanical, electronic, and pneumatic HVAC-related systems to resolve issues and efficiently implement solutions. Required Qualifications: In addition to the skills and experience mentioned below, a successful applicant will demonstrate a commitment to creating fair and equitable outcomes. Minimum Experience/Education Requirement: • Two (2) years of experience in the operation and maintenance of HVACR systems; Or • Two (2) years of technical school HVACR coursework; Or • A combination of education and/or training and/or experience which provides an equivalent background required to perform the work of the class, relative to the required licenses. Certifications/Licenses: At point of hire, or within 90 days of hire, the following licenses must be provided: (*note – the 90-day post hire option is only available on a case-by-case basis, upon review and confirmation that candidate specific gaps to meet required steps for licensing, can be achieved in 90 days or less.) • City of Seattle Grade III Steam Engineer's license - requires at least three (3) years of employment in a position directly responsible for the operation of boilers, or educational substitution for experience that is combined with one (1) year of working experience. • City of Seattle Refrigeration Mechanic’s License class A - requires three (3) years of experience conducting refrigeration repair and installation, as an apprentice to, or as a journeyman refrigeration and/or air conditioning mechanic; or two (2) years of training in a recognized school of technology, combined with one (1) year of experience in the refrigeration trade; or two (2) years full-tine experience in the refrigeration trade and graduation from a recognized trade school of refrigeration technology. • L06A Washington State Electrician Specialty License - requires a minimum of 4,000 hours of work experience under the supervision of a journey level electrician. • EPA CFC Universal Certificate - requires to you pass each of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) tests for Types Core, I, II and III. • A current Washington State driver's license Desired Qualifications: • Troubleshooting skills to diagnose and /or address problems independently. • Experience working in a team setting or alone. • Able to follow verbal and written instructions. • Can prioritize work, tackle medium to increasingly sophisticated problems and handle opposing priorities. HVAC Maintenance Technician

Job Summary Position Summary: The HVAC/Facilities Technician is responsible for the operation, maintenance, renovation and repair of boiler systems and all other mechanical systems in a facility to include HVAC systems and related equipment. The general responsibilities of the position include those listed below, but The Hearthstone may identify other responsibilities of the position. Duties/Responsibilities: • Operates and maintains stationary engines and equipment such as steam engines, boilers, air compressors, generators, turbines, and refrigeration equipment. • Installs, maintains, and repairs heating, ventilating, and air conditioning systems. • Monitors HVAC systems and operations and ensures that routine preventive maintenance is performed according to established schedules and standards. • Responds to hot and cold calls, then troubleshoot and resolve issues. • Checks, repairs and/or replaces valves, motors, controls, switches, gauges, wiring, fans, pumps, compressors, condensers, cores, pipes and other functional components of the system. • Records data (temperature, hours of operation, fuel consumption, water levels, etc.), reading dials, gauges, and manuals. • Adjusts manual controls or overrides automatic controls to start or shut down equipment. • Conducts safety tests and periodically inspects, repairs, adjusts, and lubricates. • Performs preventative maintenance of equipment, as required, using hand and power tools. • Records and reports actions taken and feeds chemicals and caustics into systems and devices. • Observes the results of water titration tests. • Follows all Hearthstone and regulatory agency policies and may be required to hold a license issued by a state or municipality that restricts the kinds of equipment operated to specified types and sizes. • May operate a computer, telephone, television and maintenance tools and equipment. • Document all work in the Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS). • Identifies and corrects unsafe working conditions with management oversight. • Attends training programs (classroom and virtual) as designated. • Complies with all company safety and risk management policies and procedures. • Reports all accidents and injuries in a timely manner. • Participates in regular safety meetings, safety training and hazard assessments. • Applies all applicable OSHA and related local safety requirements to all assigned work. • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. • May perform other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
