HVAC Technician

Overview Pay range: Min: $28.50/hr Mid: $36.34/hr (8+ years of experience) Max: $44.18/hr (22+ years of experience) Installs, maintains, and repairs refrigeration, air-conditioning, air-handling and heating equipment. Responsibilities • Inspects mechanical rooms for proper operation of heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration equipment. Evaluates and executes emergency repairs and/or adjustments or recommends long and short term repairs. Determines and implements alternatives for providing continued service. • Reviews building and chiller automation systems summary reports and trends for proper operations. Evaluates identified problems or conditions which are outside of established set points and makes adjustments. Monitors adjustments to ensure effective corrective action. Utilizes automation systems to evaluate and improve operations. • Performs preventative maintenance and repairs on equipment per established procedures. Evaluates effectiveness of procedures and makes recommendations for improvements. • Performs work order repairs on HVAC equipment with consideration for impact on ongoing operations. Evaluates the nature of the reported problem, determines the most effective method of analysis and corrective measures, assures problem correction, and necessary follow-up. • Investigates reported complaints and personal observations regarding poor indoor air quality and attempts to remedy the problems utilizing air measuring techniques, study of automation system data, and checking and/or calibration of control devices to assure compliance with established design and ventilation standards. • Installs and modifies HVAC equipment, ductwork, controls, and other refrigeration equipment. Provides planning and design input. Coordinates and monitors contractor work. • Takes daily water tests on cooling tower water and closed loop systems, compares results with established parameters, determines and makes adjustment(s) to minimize corrosion and biological growth in all systems. Records test results and adjustments and reports abnormal conditions. Communicates with treatment vendors to review test results, problems, and potential program changes. • Evaluates and recommends needs for spare parts and supplies in the storeroom and to accomplish work orders and projects. • Evaluates equipment and systems making recommendations for improved cost effective operations. • Performs other duties as required or assigned. Qualifications • High school graduate with 2 years of technical school in refrigeration, air-conditioning, and/or heating and two years of field experience required. • Knowledgeable in computer operations with particular emphasis in building automation systems. • Training and experience with electronic circuitry and repairs. • Blueprint and control schematic reading experience. • Air balancing experience. Required Licensure/Certifications • EPA certification for working with refrigerants.

About the Role: As a HVAC Service Technician, you will be responsible for installation, maintenance, and repair residential HVAC systems. You will also be responsible for diagnosing and troubleshooting systems. Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent. • Proven experience as a Residential Service HVAC Technician or similar role. • Valid HVAC technician license/certification. • Strong technical skills and proficiency in diagnosing and repairing residential HVAC systems. • Solid knowledge of HVAC codes, regulations, and safety standards. • Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting abilities. • Exceptional customer service and communication skills. • Ability to work independently and efficiently manage time and workload. • Physical stamina and the ability to work in various weather conditions and confined spaces. • Valid driver's license with a clean driving record. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: • Regular attendance at assigned location; may include A/Z office or other project site; • Act as a team leader in the execution of mechanical work safely and with the objective of constructing a best in class product; • Oversee and audit site safety and quality control programs; • Ensure all site safety work permits as defined within the Project Specific Safety Program are acknowledged and adhered to; • Coordinate interface between project management and site operation participants in the execution of construction services; • Oversee and coordinate any Sub-Contractors work that may be working under the Mechanical Division, ie: Sheet Metal, Building Controls, Insulator, etc. • Confirm the design intent with architectural, engineering, and consultants in accordance with Standard Project Control requirements; • Coordinate field trade activities in accordance with the project schedule and help with developing the three week look ahead coordination schedules with all appropriate Project Team Participants; • Attend all trade contractor weekly coordination meetings with Project Manager and/or Project Engineer; • Coordinate equipment and specialty material deliveries and staging requirements; • Assist with coordination and scheduled shut-downs as required to support any associated on-site operational requirements; • Support constructability and value management analysis with best industry practices; • Assess trade contractor earned value status with Project Management Team for monthly requisitions; • Maintain project as-built documentation and site coordination drawings; • Establish work completion and punch lists in accordance with established Quality Control and Quality Assurance Programs; • Ensure field installation compliance with all technical specifications, approved shop drawings and submittals; • Support interface with Client Representatives on pro-active customer centric basis; • Complete associated Superintendent project control requirements in accordance to Corporate Standard Operating Practices and Procedures; • Support field investigation analysis for potential claim / issue resolution practices with Project Team, as required; • Support field close-out, commissioning, and validation requirements as defined with the Project Team; • Insure the necessary equipment and materials are always available to support the field team so as to maximize productivity; • Supervise and participate in the installations of Heating Hot Water, Chilled Water, Steam, Condensate, Compressed Air, Process Fluids, Chemical, Fuel Oil, Gasses, and other related systems; • Works with materials that include carbon steel, stainless steel, plastics, fiberglass, copper, (brazed, soft soldered and pro-press); • Perform layout and develop isometric drawings for piping systems; • Understand the constructability requirements for installing pre-fabricated piping systems including location of field fit welds, random spool lengths, installation logic, etc.; • Measure, cut, thread or bend pipe to required angle using hand or power tools or machines such as pipe cutters, pipe-threading machines or pipe-bending machines; • Locate and mark the position of pipe installations, connections, passage holes or fixtures in structures using measuring instruments such as rulers or levels; • Test pipes or fixtures for leaks using various methods; • Assemble pipe sections, tubing or fittings using couplings, clamps, screws, bolts, cement, plastic solvent, caulking, soldering or brazing equipment; • Perform proper fit-up of pipe, fittings and flanges for open root butt welding and socket welding; • Install pipe assemblies, fittings, valves, appliances or fixtures using hand or power tools; • Detect faulty operation of equipment or defective materials and notify supervisors; • Direct helpers or apprentices in appropriate tasks; • Read and interpret blueprints, isometric drawings, plans or specifications to determine work details or procedures; • Must maintain strict adherence to safety rules and quality; • Insure proper site housekeeping is always maintained; • Interact with co-workers in an attentive courteous manner; • Additional duties as directed by management. Qualifications SKILLS &EXPERIENCE/REQUIREMENTS: • Ability to work independently and manage a team of pipe fitters, plumbers, welders and apprentices; • Experience: 10 years of Field Experience; • Knowledge of materials, methods and tools involved in industrial construction; • Attention to detail and quality; • Be highly focused on customer satisfaction expectations; • Good documentation and record keeping; • Preparation of miscellaneous paperwork including time sheets, daily reports and material requests; • Competency in Permit Required Confined Space; • Understanding and development of daily Job Hazard Analysis (JHA); • Appropriate state certification or license; • OSHA 10 certification.
