Classification Summary: Installs and maintains the many mechanical, electrical and electronic components, such as motors, compressors, pumps, fans, ducts, pipes, thermostats and switches that are part of heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration systems. Maintains, diagnoses, and corrects problems throughout the entire system using special tools and test equipment. Classification Standard Duties: Performs troubleshooting and repair of building distribution systems including low pressure steam distribution, heat exchangers, hot and cold deck systems, air handlers, and pneumatic and digital controls; Performs HVAC system inspections and manufacturer-recommended preventive maintenance; Performs major component replacement work in conjunction with central energy management and control system operators; Performs seasonal overhauls and instructs repair teams in transition of systems from heating to cooling and vice versa; Monitors and adjusts system set points and output using remote computer links to the building's programmable logic controls; Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices; Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Responsibilities: • Operate, maintain, repair, install, adjust and troubleshoot all types of air conditioning equipment including controls, SCADA systems and electrical power to such equipment. • Develop a working knowledge of the functions and operations of the operational equipment, systems and controls at WSC. • Perform duties consistent with this classification as assigned by management with limited supervision and provide technical guidance to lower-level classifications as required. • Perform maintenance and repair of chillers, pumps, air handling equipment, package units, cooling towers, VAV systems, and humidification systems. • Install small refrigeration systems • Replace compressors, fans, coils etc. on systems up to 150 tons. • This position may perform tasks working as a member of a team with other classifications providing help and assistance as required. • Performs all other position related duties as assigned or requested.
