OVERVIEW Merrick & Company is seeking a high school, technical school or community college Engineering or Drafting and Design student for a paid apprenticeship program beginning in Fall 2025 for the Los Alamos, NM office. The Merrick Apprenticeship Program will provide an opportunity to gain technical experience in the field of engineering, design and drafting. This specific apprenticeship position is for a Mechanical Facilities HVAC Designer Apprentice and will work directly with engineering design teams to produce drawings, modify project models and design installation layouts of HVAC utilities and details with direction from the project engineer. Typical facility and laboratory designs include containment systems (gloveboxes, hot cells, cleanrooms), specialized exhaust systems, ventilation systems, filtration systems, and hydronic piping systems. Pay range for this position is $21.92 - $23.17 per hour. Base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. WHAT YOU'LL DO • Produce drawings and modify project models using basic working knowledge of the CAD software. Detailed design activities include preparation of 3D models, creating detailed drawing packages, and creating detailed Bills of Materials. • Modify and manipulate basic models in 3D environment. • Complete revisions of existing technical drawings. • Work on projects/matters of limited complexity in a support role. • Follow defined standards and procedures. • Receive initial instructions from a mentor or supervisor and have technical work checked upon completion. REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Minimum 0-2 years of experience. • Must be currently enrolled and pursuing an Associate Degree in Drafting/Design, Graphic Design, Pre-Engineering, or Technical College Certification or equivalent experience from high school CAD and engineering program. • Client projects for this position requires U.S. Citizenship. DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS • Experience with CAD software programs AutoCAD and Revit. • Experience with other solid modeling software such as CREO, SolidWorks, Inventor, or CADWorx. • Understanding of basic drawing generation and layout.
