HVAC Repair Person

Position Overview APPLICATIONS ACCEPTED FROM: ALL PERSONS INTERESTED DIVISION: RECREATION & WELLNESS - Community Center Operations LOCATION: 6200 Wheeler St. Houston, Texas 77023 * WORKDAYS & HOURS: Monday - Friday 6:30 am to 3:30 pm* • Subject to change Description Of Duties/Essential Functions The Houston Parks and Recreation Department is dedicated to building a sustainable community and enhancing the quality of urban life by providing safe well-maintained parks and offering affordable programming for our community. To achieve this mission, HPARD is seeking a Heating & Air Conditioning Repair Person to join its Facilities Management & Development team. This Individual Will • Troubleshoot, repair, and replace HVAC equipment & components. • Performs preventive maintenance on HVAC equipment, including changing filters and cleaning equipment. • Repairs various cooling systems (i.e., A.C. split, roof top package units, window units and water-cooled systems). • Troubleshoots electrical failures, removes and replaces all faulty electrical components. • Cleans and replaces condensers, evaporator coils and faulty compressors. WORKING CONDITIONS The position involves considerable physical exertion, such as regular climbing of ladders, lifting of heavy objects (up to 80 pounds) on a highly frequent basis and/or assuming awkward positions for long periods of time. There are routine exposures to significant levels of heat, cold, moisture and air pollution. The position may involve periodic exposure to chemical substances and physical trauma of a minor nature such as cuts, bruises and minor burns. Minimum Requirements EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS KNOWLEDGE: Specialized training in principles, procedures, practices, routines or techniques in a specific area or trade which might normally be acquired through up to 18 months of education or training beyond the high school level. Vocational competence in the operation of mechanical or electronic equipment may be required. Requires HVAC certification. Experience Requirements One year of experience in the installation, service and maintenance of heating and air conditioning systems is required. License Requirements Requires State of Texas Registered Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Technician License. HVAC Helper

Department: Preventive Maintenance Salary: Commensurate with Experience/Education Description: Assists journey HVAC mechanic in repairing and maintaining heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems in university owned buildings. 1.Gathers tools and supplies to be used at work site, according to instructions. 2. Assists in lifting, positioning and fastening objects and equipment; removes old equipment as required. 3. Assist in the more routine maintenance chores, such as cleaning units, filter replacement, rust removal and repainting, draining and filling oil reservoirs. 4. Cleans up after jobs at the work site and maintains shop clean and neat. 5. Assists in maintaining tools and equipment in good condition, and in keeping supplies and parts in order. 6. Performs other job-related duties as assigned. MQ: Requires a basic knowledge of grammar, spelling, punctuation and simple mathematical functions like percentages, ratios, etc. as might normally be acquired through attainment of a high school diploma or GED.
