Position Type: Maintenance/HVAC Mechanic Date Posted: 10/31/2025 Location: MAINTENANCE Beaumont independent school district Job Description JOB TITLE: HVAC Preventive Maintenance Technician CLASSIFICATION: Nonexempt REPORTS TO: Supervisor or Assistant of HVAC/Plumbing PAY GRADE: Aux 7 /242 Days LOCATION: Maintenance/Operations DATE REVISED: 6/07/2021 PRIMARY PURPOSE: Skilled independent work in the repair, maintenance, preventive maintenance of air conditioning systems along with related systems and equipment. Ability to clear drain lines, wash condensers and chillers. QUALIFICATIONS: Education/Certification: • Ability to read and write and have communication skills necessary to converse with various types of persons. • High school diploma or equivalent preferred Special Knowledge/Skills: • Thorough knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions of the work • Thorough knowledge of the heating, refrigeration and air condition equipment • Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions and to work from blueprints and sketches • Considerable skills in heating and correcting defects in heating, refrigeration and air conditioning equipment • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships Experience: • Entry-Level MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES: Maintenance and Repair • Maintain all heating, ventilation, and air conditioning equipment on assigned campuses along with peripheral related equipment (chillers, air handlers, fan coils, basic controls, dx units, related piping, and air compressors). • Manages assigned work orders, maintaining material and labor costs applied to each job. • Show accountability for supplies purchased or issued. • Responsible for care and maintenance of assigned vehicles and tools. • Responsible for meeting performance standards. • Execute scheduled preventative maintenance routines on mechanical equipment, including fans,pumps, motors, and air handling units. • Accurately inspect, tension, and replace drive belts ( V-belt, serpentine belts, etc.) to ensure proper operation. • Lubrication safely and effectively lubricate bearing, motor and moving parts using appropriate greases and oil, following established schedules and procedures. • Conduct visual inspections of equipment for obvious signs of wear, leaks, excessive vibration, or over heating and report to the supervisor. • Maintain a clean, safe and well organized facility and work area. • Perform scheduled and emergency repairs and/or maintenance as directed. • Always act in lead position unless accompanied by other Class I so designated. • Carry out all duties in accordance with BISD Board of Education policies and administrative regulation EQUIPMENT USED: • Vehicle, meters (electrical, temperature, flow), pressure gauges, hand tools, vacuum pump, refrigerant recovery unit, pipe threaders, torch and welding unit WORKING CONDITIONS: Mental Demands • Maintain emotional control under stress • Work with frequent interruptions • Communication (verbal and written) • Interpretive skills (policy, procedures, data) • Concentration; differentiating; memorizing; reading; problem solving Physical Demands • Must be able to distinguish basic colors for the purpose of electrical safety • Medium lifting and carrying with minimum floor to knuckle lift of 75 lbs • Frequent standing, kneeling/squatting, bending/stooping, pushing/pulling, twisting, and some shoveling • Frequent walking, climbing stairs/ladders/scaffolding, grasping/squeezing, wrist flexion/extension, and overhead reaching • Operation of a motor vehicle Environmental Demands • Occasional prolonged or irregular hours of work; may be required to work nights • Work outside and inside, on slippery or uneven walking surfaces • Frequent exposure to extreme hot and cold temperatures; excessive humidity and dampness • Exposure to noise, vibration, and electrical hazards • Exposure to a small amount of fumes from silicone, glues, and adhesives • Exposure to dust, smoke, gas, solvents, grease, and oil • Work with ladders, scaffolds, and personnel lifts • Work around machinery with moving parts; work around moving objects and vehicles • May work alone • Frequent districtwide travel The above statements describe the general purpose and responsibilities assigned to the job and are not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties, and skills that may be required.
