1st Shift Maintenance Refrigeration Technician; 5:00 a.m. - 3:30 p.m.

Under the direction of the Maintenance Manager, the Refrigeration Technician will provide leadership and coordinate all efforts for the plant systems pertaining to Ammonia, Steam, Air, Water and HVAC. The refrigeration mechanic will establish, organize, plan, and implement maintenance programs that will improve the operating efficiencies for the plant quickly and safely. He will support the maintenance strategy for Preventive Maintenance, Corrective Maintenance, Operator Asset Care, Continuous Improvement, Maintenance Avoidance and PSM. This will also include the development and implementation of necessary technical training/certification needs, and the provision of any technical services needed to support the Plant. The Refrigeration Mechanic will support and coordinate all efforts with outside contractors including justification, design, some project implementation, and startups, also includes the direction of outside contractors and their maintenance contracts Essential Functions • Monitors and evaluates equipment logs and reports for steam, refrigeration, water, compressed air and HVAC systems. Looks to correct chronic or repetitive problems by evaluating the log or reports • Engaged in the operation and maintenance of the powerhouse equipment • Maintains records of all equipment and recommends improvements to inventory and preventive maintenance systems based on this information • Coordinates efforts with outside contractors to successfully execute maintenance contracts • Procures materials necessary for the maintenance of equipment in his area of responsibility • Ensure new equipment meets requirements of OSHA, sanitation, quality, maintenance, and production. • Plans all work for power house equipment • Oversees and approves all repairs • Maintains fire and ammonia leak vigilance • Handles all matters pertaining to the powerhouse in a safe manner • Participates in the PSM Program • Keeps Plant Engineering manager, Maintenance Mgr., Manufacturing Mgr. and Safety Mgr. advised of operating conditions and problems on a timely manner • Procurement of Energy • Maintain Compliance of Federal, State and Local EPA regulations • Provide a safe and reliable, efficient operation • Promotes Safe working habits • Responsible for interacting with all plant depts. Basic Qualifications • Minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in Ammonia Refrigeration or related field. • Background that includes, but not limited to boilers, air compressor equipment, understanding of plant utilities systems, equipment installation and startups • Experience working with vendors and contractors. Desired Qualifications • Previous experience in the food industry and knowledge of GMPs and SQF audits would be valuable Competencies • Strong interpersonal and team skills to function as a productive team member and leader. • Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. • Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as proportions, percentages, area, circumference, and volume. • Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry. • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form Work Environment While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and power industrial truck.
