Department: Facilities Electrician HV-CS-8654 In order to be considered an applicant for this position you must meet the minimum qualifications as stated in this announcement. Applicants must currently hold an unrestricted employment authorization to work in the United States and appointment will be contingent upon completion of a background check. RESIDENCY REQUIREMENTS: Candidates must be legal residents of New York State for at least FOUR months prior to assignment. This is a Probationary appointment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High School Diploma or possession of a High School Equivalency and one year of journeyman level experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment (OR) Four years of generalized experience and one year of journeyman level experience in the maintenance and repair of electrical equipment (OR) an equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above. Must possess a valid , clean NYS driver's license. DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Electrician performs work under general direction of the Senior Electrician with considerable latitude permitted for the exercise of independent judgment in planning and carrying out assignments. The Electrician reports to the Senior Electrician and performs the following duties: • Installs and maintains instrumentation equipment such as flow meters, level and pressure sensors, transmitters, receivers, tone equipment, indicators, recorders and chemical feed equipment. • Installs, repairs and maintains electrical motors, switch gear, transformers and other electrical facilities. • Performs preventive maintenance to ensure systems are clean, safe and workable. • Repairs and overhauls heating and ventilating fan blowers, pumps, vacuum cleaners, motors, generators, and electrical appliances. • Maintains and repairs storage battery systems, storage battery chargers, lighting circuits, lighting fixtures and emergency generators. • Maintains and repairs signal equipment such as remote-control equipment, signal and alarm equipment, program clock, program bells and fire alarm systems. • Maintains accurate records of maintenance work. This is a full-time 12-month, 40-hour work week position with an hourly rate of $23.61. Hourly rate will be $24.61 as of 9/1/2025. Start date is immediate. Pursuant to subdivision 4a of Sec. 23 of the Civil Service Law, preference may be given to successful candidates who have been legal residents of the municipality to which the appointment is to be made for at least FOUR months preceding the date of the written test. This is a provisional appointment. Selected candidate will need to sit, pass and be eligible on the next available Rensselaer County Civil Service Exam for Laboratory Technician in order to be considered for permanent appointment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from High School or possession of an equivalency diploma and two years of full time paid experience working in a particular kind of scientific or technical laboratory or performing skilled services in the particular technical occupation or trade associated with the specific title: or graduation from a regionally accredited or New York State registered college or university with an Associate’s Degree in the scientific or technical field indicated in the title; or an equivalent combination of training and experience as indicated above. DUTIES AND/OR RESPONSIBILITIES: The Laboratory Assistant performs work under direct supervision of the Department Chair of Applied Technologies and/or his/her designee with latitude allowed for the exercise of independent judgment in carrying out the details of the assignments in accordance with definitely defined procedures. The Laboratory Assistant reports to the Department Chair of Applied Technologies and performs the following duties: • Constructs, assembles, and maintains ECM laboratory equipment. • Orders, maintains, and controls inventory of laboratory supplies to include refrigerants, equipment, supplies, and tools. • Issues lab equipment and supplies to students and assists in student services performed by the Applied Technologies Department. • Maintains the cleanliness of laboratories, storage areas, and equipment. • Prepares and maintains a variety of related records and reports to include the Applied Technologies Department’s inventory of equipment and furnishings. • Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs to laboratory equipment. • Performs related tasks as required. • Works with Lab Assistant colleagues in the Applied Technologies Department to ensure all programs are supplied and maintained.
