Electrical Engineer, Advanced Development

Job Description: Job Title: Electrical Engineer, Advanced Development Operating Company: Heil Environmental Location: Fort Payne, AL Reports To: Senior Manager, Research and Validation Department: Operations Position Summary: Are you an experienced engineer with a passion for design, development and research? We are hiring an Electrical Engineer to join the Research and Validation team in our Fort Payne, AL facility. As the Electrical Engineer, you will research, design and test electrical systems for on-highway vocational mobile equipment and work with suppliers to make electrical system component selections. This Engineer will research, develop and maintain programs for electrical system controllers and assist production with electrical system diagnostics. Your primary area of focus will be electrical systems although cross-disciplinary involvement and education is a must. Key Functions of the Electrical Engineer: • Design and detail electrical circuits and select components to meet customer expectations. • Support multiple Product Development engineering teams. • Cascade system level customer requirements to electrical specifications and requirements. • Take designs through supplier sourcing, design development, product validation, manufacturability, and product launch. • Upgrade existing designs to meet current requirements, improving reliability and reducing cost when possible. • Coordinate and conduct design verification testing at component, subsystem, and system level. • Assist in the development of project plans, timelines, deliverables and quality plans. • Provide technical assistance to internal and external customers, distributors and salespersons. • Research new software and hardware for refuse vehicles. • Directly involved with testing and validating new software and hardware. Qualifications of the Electrical Engineer: • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering or related field required; Master’s Degree strongly preferred. • 2-5 years' experience designing, testing and analyzing electrical systems. • Strong controls programming, MATLAB, structured text and/or ladder logic experience required. • Controller Area Network (CAN) experience/knowledge required. • Excellent communication skills with ability to collaborate across various teams. • Microsoft Office; PRO-E or other 3D modeling software. • Experience in the design and application of Advanced Hydraulics, Robotics, and Controls Systems is heavily desired. • Strong problem-solving skills employing 6-Sigma or another structured method to solve complex problems. • Should be a self-starter with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment while still being highly detailed and accurate. • The ability to access new methods or technologies at various levels of detail. To quickly categorize it as ‘worth further investigation’ and then to pursue that investigation, validation and documentation. • Willing to travel up to 15% and maintain a flexible work schedule during critical stages of development projects. Report status of project work, maintain accurate schedules for projects, and ensure that projects are completed in a timely manner. Responsible for understanding and applying standard engineering principles, creating simulations and prototypes to evaluate preliminary designs, and testing how the system operates compared to project scope. Monitor quality of product design release from engineering.
