This role is responsible for performing various electrical repairs, including Life Cycle Maintenance (LCM) and Condition Based Maintenance (CBM) Programs for all locomotive, coach, DMU and EMU Fleets of Herzog maintained equipment. Duties and Responsibilities: • This is a non-exhaustive overview of the job duties for this position. • Responsible for the efficient inspection, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and installation of locomotive mechanical systems equipment such as diesel engine, motors, generators, wheels/ truck repair, air brake, and other mechanical components to ensure conformance with FRA, company, and customer specifications. • Predictive, preventative, and reactive maintenance and repair on pumps, presses, valves, fans, safety machine guards, fans and electrical equipment. • Accurately completes equipment inspection, work order and other forms as required in a timely manner. • Inspect equipment components for compliance with FRA, Association of American Railroads (AAR), APTA (American Public Transportation Association) and Company standards. • Repair, replace and test machinery, components and systems related to rail equipment under direction of management by performing mechanical, electro-mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic activities. • Perform standard maintenance tasks including mechanical, electrical, electro-pneumatic on both car and locomotive. • Ensure compliance with all railroad rules and regulations for safety, operations, and the Federal Railroad Administration (FRA). Comply with the guidelines set forth by the FRA on Personal Blue Signal Protection of Workers. • Assists in all other repairs and maintenance as required by supervision. • Clean and maintain work area, tools and shop equipment. Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent. • 3-5 years of electrical experience preferred. • Experience in troubleshooting, repair, replacement or rebuilding mechanical equipment and systems. • Experience in EMD, Caterpillar, Cummins, MTU is preferred. • Ability to read electrical schematics/blueprints. • Operational qualification of mechanical and electrical control systems to verify conformance to specifications on equipment using a variety of test equipment and procedures i.e.: gages, dial indicators, manometers, meters, insulation break-down test devices, specialized tooling and live system measurements. • Flexible with ability to switch responsibilities daily, as needed in highly diversified duties • Basic computer skills to track parts and progress of locomotive repairs in HITS system • Completion of technical school or apprenticeship program preferred. • Experience in the maintenance of railroad equipment preferred. • Knowledge of mechanical, hydraulic and pneumatic systems. • HVAC Clean Air Act Type II, III or Universal certification is highly desirable. • Ability to read with accuracy diesel engine manuals, locomotive schematics, service bulletins, maintenance instructions and other craft related documentation. • Ability to read and understand FRA and company rules, specifications and guidelines. Able to legibly document items of non-compliance. • Knowledge and skill in the use of electrical tools, equipment and the measurements necessary to meet established standards. • Ability to read, write and communicate proficiently. • Proficient with MS Office Suite • Must possess or be able to obtain and maintain, forklift, crane and fall protection certifications. Travel Requirements: • Extensive Travel is required to various sites to provide next level superior support with troubleshooting, repair, and diagnosing product issues including mechanical, electrical, and pneumatic systems.
