This position also involves operating cement mixers, power tools and other types of equipment as well as other assigned duties Duties and Responsibilities: • Builds and assembles wood forms and form systems using saws, hammers, drills, and other power tools as required • Digs ditches and trenches • Compacts and levels dirt to grade specifications. • Shovels cement and other materials into portable cement mixers. • Mixes, pours and spreads concrete • Uses hand tools such as hammer, shovels, chainsaws, drills, hydraulic tools, etc. for necessary tasks. • Provides assistance to other workers • Erects and disassembles scaffolding, shoring, barricades, etc. • Loads and unloads equipment Education and/or Experience: • Two years' minimum Carpenter experience • High School education or equivalent preferred • Ability to read and understand construction plans, preferred • Bridge construction preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required: • Attention to Detail • Ability to understand and follow oral instructions and effectively communicate with supervisors, co-workers and the public • Able to comply with all safety policies and procedures and OSHA regulations • Able to comply with all company policies and procedures • Ability to travel and work overtime (including nights and weekends) when required • Must have a strong work ethic • Valid driver's license, preferred • Must be able to pass a pre-employment and random drug screen. Primary function of a Form Carpenter: Build and set forms to pour concrete. Typical Duties include but are not limited to: • Follow safety rules and regulations and maintain a safe and clean environment. • Select specified type of lumber or other materials. • Prepare layout, using a rule or measuring tape and framing square. • Mark cutting and assembly lines on materials, using a pencil, chalk, and marking gauge. • Shape materials to prescribed measurements, using saws, chisels, and planes. • Assemble cut and shaped materials and fasten them together with nails, dowel pins, or glue. • Construct forms and chutes for pouring concrete. • Erect scaffolding and ladders for assembling structures above the ground level. • Saw lumber to blueprint dimensions, using a handsaw or power saw, and nail lumber together to make form panels. • Erect built-in-place forms or assemble and install prefabricated forms. • Anchor and brace forms to fixed objects, using nails, bolts, anchor rods, and steel cables. • Some assembly of forms may be required by bolt up connections. • Layout and install embeds in concrete form-work. • Complete all additional duties as directed by supervisor. Skills, Knowledge, Qualifications & Experience: • Work within precise standards of accuracy. • Must have basic carpenter tools. • Rate information using standards, which can be measured or checked. • Compare and see differences in the size, shape, and forms of lines, figures, and objects. • Must follow policies and procedures and support UIG’s mission.
