See More Details >>Position Overview The Repairs Carpenter will be joining colleagues dedicated to the organization's mission and an environment where teamwork thrives. The Repairs Carpenter is responsible for assisting the Repairs Manager in Habitat for Humanity's home repair projects. These repairs are performed by the Repairs Manager, volunteers, and/or paid contractors; therefore, the ability to work effectively with a diverse group of individuals is required. The Repairs Carpenter will interact with volunteers, Habitat partner families, inspectors and subcontractors. This is a full-time, non-exempt position (40 hours per week), with a normal weekly work schedule of Monday - Friday with the ability to work some weekends. Responsibilities and Duties • Completes intermediate/advanced carpentry projects as instructed by and with the consultation of the Repairs Manager, acting as the on site lead • Remodel framing: Sistering joists, straightening walls, patching subfloor, etc • Construction and repair of decks and porches • Stairbuilding • Setting of doors and windows • Baseboard, casing and other trim carpentry • Installing cabinetry and countertops • Completes basic construction labor and minor electrical and plumbing repairs as instructed by the lead on site • Changing receptacles, switches, and light fixtures • Installing sinks, faucets, supply lines, and p-traps • Works with the Repairs Manager and Repairs Coordinator to plan and track labor, material, and equipment use for each project • Assists in the training and supervision of Apprentice/Americorps crew members • Assists in the operation of Repairs work sites by opening and closing sites, maintaining a clean and safe work environment, and preparing tools and materials for the day's work • Assists in the maintenance of work sites, vehicles, tools, workshop and program organizational systems • Cultivates positive relationships with homeowners and crew members Qualifications and Requirements • High school diploma required • Demonstrated competency in the use of construction power and hand tools • Demonstrated understanding of remodel carpentry • Demonstrated basic knowledge of plumbing, electrical and hvac systems • Desire to advance trades knowledge and skills • Ability and willingness to relay information to homeowners and subcontractors when needed • Ability to perform intermediate/advanced construction math calculations • Ability and willingness to lead volunteers if needed • Ability and willingness to work in all weather conditions • Ability and willingness to work on ladders, scaffolding, and roofs, and in attics and crawl spaces • Ability and willingness to operate construction vehicles • Ability to work in a cross-functional, fast-paced work environment Physical requirements necessary to perform this job: • Ability to adequately traverse a residential construction job site (i.e.- climbing, lifting, carrying a minimum of 75 lbs., and other similar activities as required) • Ability to safely use residential construction power tools • Ability to safely operate a construction vehicle (pickup truck or similar) • A current and valid [NC] drivers license The above statements are intended to describe the general nature and level of work being performed by individuals assigned to this job.
