JobID: 1688 Position Type: Per Diem Date Posted: 3/21/2024 Location: Various Newark Board of Education Locations NEWARK BOARD OF EDUCATION HUMAN RESOURCE SERVICES 765 BROAD STREET, NEWARK, NEW JERSEY 07102 Per Diem Carpenter (Day) Office of Facilities Management – Project Control (Pending availability of funds and Board of Education approval) The Superintendent invites qualified and interested persons to apply for the position of Per Diem Carpenter (Day) within the Office of Facilities Management – Project Control. Under a supervisory officer, does general carpentry work involved in the layout, construction, repair and maintenance of buildings and of household, office, and institution equipment and furnishing; does other related duties. NOTE: The examples of work for this title are for illustrative purposes only. A particular position using this title may not perform all duties listed in this job specification. Conversely, all duties performed on the job may not be listed. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS • Three (3) years of experience in carpentry work involving the layout, construction, repair, and maintenance of buildings and office equipment and furnishings. • Appointee will be required to possess a driver's license valid in New Jersey only if the operation of a vehicle, rather than employee mobility, is necessary to perform the essential duties of the position. Appointees may be required to possess a valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and applicable endorsements for the class and type of vehicle being operated. BASIC FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITES 1. Repairs broken and malfunctioning furniture, doors, window cords and sashes, Venetian blinds, screens, locks, glass panes, and other types of equipment, and makes and installs window frames and sashes, screens, trim, doors, flooring, siding, sheathing, stairs, railing porches, cabinets, and simple furniture. 2. Constructs and repairs buildings and structures, making use of any appropriate wood joints such as dovetail, miter, mortise, and tenon. 3. Replaces damaged ceiling panels, wall coverings, or floor segments such as inlaid parquet pieces. 4. Builds bookcases, cabinets, tables, fan brackets, stands, screens, partitions, and other types of equipment. 5. Makes various types of rafter cuts; lays out and cuts stair horse stringers; erects scaffolding; constructs and installs cribbing and form for concrete; sets and operates a variety of woodworking machines including power saws and attachments, planers, jointers, sanders, electric drills, and routers. 6. Makes emergency carpentry repairs. 7. Instructs inmates and/or patients in carpentry work and ensures thier safety, custody and work progress. 8. Builds and makes repairs to special truck bodies. 9. Makes time and materials estimates. 10. Makes reports of personnel, time supplies, and work completed. 11. Maintains records. 12. In the Department of Human Services, may be required to undergo fire-training classes. 13. May be required to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES 1. Knowledge of methods and problems involved in inspecting, repairing, constructing and maintaining buildings, furniture, ventilators, window cords, sashes, screens, locks, and other equipment. 2. Ability to analyze carpentry work, organize work, and develop work methods. 3. Ability to carry out directions and/or work from blueprints or drawings. 4. Ability to make carpentry repairs and to do carpentry construction work. 5. Ability to make efficient, safe use of standard carpentry tools and equipment including, planers, joiners, and band and crosscut saws, shapers, and other specialized tools and machinery. 6. Ability to requisition, store, safeguard, and use carpentry equipment, materials, and supplies. 7. Ability to take safety precautions. 8. Ability to prepare reports of equipment and materials used, time spent, and work completed. 9. Ability to maintain records. 10. Ability to learn to utilize various types of electronic and/or manual recording and information systems used by the agency, office, or related units. 11.Ability to read, write, speak, understand, or communicate in English sufficiently to perform the duties of this position, American Sign Language or Braille may also be considered as acceptable forms of communication. • REPORTS TO: Director of Project Control SALARY, EMPLOYMENT PERIOD AND UNION AFFILIATION 1. Commercial Lead Finish Carpenter - Millwork/Cabinets/Trim -Traveling Position

Description: We are a leader in Millwork, Cabinet and Fixture Installations seeking experienced and enthusiastic working Lead Finish Carpenters who can perform in a diverse range of situations overseeing and installing fixtures, casework and millwork in commercial and retail environments. “We have traveling positions available. Technology: Able to download and use APPS on phone and mobile devices. Able to make electronic submissions though company portal. Physical Demands: Ability to walk and stand for long periods of time, climb ladders, work from an aerial lift. Frequent bending, kneeling, twisting and squatting. Work with materials over your head for short durations. Able to lift and carry objects weighing up to 50 lbs. regularly. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT Must be able to pass a Drug Screening, Criminal Background Check and MVR screening for approved driving status. Must be able to complete a Company Sponsored CPR/First Aid Training course online. Available to work overtime as needed. Our typical workweek is 40 to 60 hours. Be flexible to work non-conventional shifts when required (some overnight projects may occur). Able to travel and be away from home for durations from 2-8 weeks depending on our contract. Must provide own basic hand tools and cordless drill. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES AND SKILL REQUIREMENTS · Able to complete onsite millwork, cabinet and countertop, fixture, graphic and décor installs in commercial and retail environments. · Personnel management of various crew sizes ranging from 3-6 employees or larger projects of 8 or more employees. · Able to receive, stage and manage large inventory of millwork and fixture parts for distribution and installation. · Able to evaluate site conditions, construction and delivery schedules and when these factors are not aligned, clearly and effectively communicate to Project Management Team, onsite contractor or when necessary, our client. · Able to establish and understand layouts for millwork, fixtures and other elements. · Must always represent the company in a professional manner.
