East Stroudsburg University is hiring a Carpenter 1! Located in the beautiful Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania, ESU’s proximity to New York City and Philadelphia provides convenient access to internships, careers and social activities. Just minutes from campus are the country’s largest water parks, scenic Delaware Water Gap Recreation Area, Appalachian Trail, and other opportunities for recreational fun. As the Carpenter 1, you will need to think creatively and be comfortable performing skilled work in several trades in carpentry. You will be an active member of the Facilities Management team and will work closely with the Building Maintenance Foreman to remove damaged materials and perform full demolition of existing structures. You will thrive in this role if you like combining your carpentry experience and knowledge of electrical assignments all while utilizing various different tools to maintain ESU facilities. To be successful in this role, you must be detail-oriented, have a strong work ethic and high standards to perform quality independent work. (AKA Essential Duties) • Operate and use all necessary machinery, tools, and equipment including but not limited to bench saw and joiners, band saw, overhead saw, belt sander, electric drill press, electric grinder, key-making machine, skill saw, saber saw, electric planers, router, and other equipment incidental to the trade. • Responsible for repairing, replacing, and installing new screening doors (wood and metal) and windows. • Repair wood and tile flooring and assist in laying new concrete. • Repair and replace locks and cylinders and make new keys. • Construct or repair tables, chairs, bleachers, steps, and athletic equipment. • Repair and install tracks for draperies and blinds. • Construct classrooms and offices, install blackboards, make, and repair bulletin boards, and construct and install shelving. • Complete all necessary wood and drywall construction. • Repair roof(s) with available materials including shingles and slate. • Read and interpret construction blueprints and drawings. • Perform related work as required. What We're Looking For (AKA Qualifications) • Three years of experience in the construction, installation, repair, restoration, or maintenance of structures and articles made from wood, composite, and wood substitute materials or an equivalent combination of experience and training. • Valid C Driver’s License • Ability to lift, carry, push and pull 50lb minimum, and extensive hand coordination movement required. • Ability to work in inclement weather. • Comprehension of written and oral communication. • Knowledge of skilled carpentry and electrical assignments in accordance with the standard practice of the trade. • Basic computer skills, web browser for email and compliance training. • Ability to work independently and use judgment when performing work tasks related to skillset. • Experience with Word, Excel, Teams required. • Able to read, write, and comprehend English; able to follow verbal instructions.
