Description: Nichols Contracting (NCI) is a family-owned and operated Construction and Contracting business headquartered in Columbia, MD with offices in Richmond, VA Venice, FL, Royal Palm Beach, FL, and Orange City, FL, and a team of 170 employees. NCI is a full-service general contractor focused on providing premier services in all aspects of the construction process, from concept to completion. We manage a broad range of commercial construction projects, including new construction, tenant fit outs and renovations. NCI services a diverse group of markets including federal, state, and local governments, as well as a variety of corporate and special industry organizations that require complex life safety and critical infrastructure needs. Essential Functions: • Measures, marks, and arranges materials to establish layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors. • Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall. • Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects. • Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive. • Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, surveying equipment, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed. • Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete or for tunnels, bridges, or sewer construction projects. • Erects and dismantles scaffolding. • Installs windows and doors. • Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: • Successful completion of vocational school or technical college or apprenticeship program; OR experience via on-the-job training required. • Ability to understand directions and read blueprints. • Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately. • Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade. • Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods. • Works well as part of a team. Education and Experience: · High school diploma or equivalent required; Bachelor’s degree preferred. · Minimum 10 years of related experience is required. Physical Requirements: · Must be able to traverse the worksite in different types of weather and bend, climb, stretch, reach, and lean to make inspections. · Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at times. · Some travel may be required. Job Overview The Head Carpenter is responsible for advancing with venues, loading in and out the show, ensuring the performances run safely, acting as the supervisor for the touring crew (between eight and sixteen people), and is ultimately the supervisor of the local provided labor crew of thirty-five to sixty people. This position is the supervisor of every member in all technical departments.
