About Our Company Drunken Smithy is a small business in Central Pennsylvania teaching blacksmithing and other metalworking workshops. We invite people of all backgrounds, no experience necessary, to come forge with us at our shop in Lebanon, PA to have a fun time and learn a little about forging by making their own projects under the guidance of our blacksmiths. Drunken Smithy also has a retail store featuring beautiful items crafted in-house and an axe throwing venue inside the Lebanon Valley Mall. Job Description Drunken Smithy is now hiring an experienced carpenter to support our forge, workshop operations, and build outs. We're seeking a skilled carpenter who can help bring our creative projects to life and support the practical needs of our busy blacksmithing shop. This role involves everything from crafting wooden products like shields and Viking-style chairs, to helping students put wooden scales on their forged knives. The ideal candidate will be comfortable with a mix of hands-on production, teaching support, repairs, and shop maintenance. Carpentry duties will include organizing the wood workshop, maintaining inventory of materials and tools, and drawing up plans or blueprints for new builds. You’ll take part in ongoing construction and upgrades of our store setups and storefront facades, as well as creating or repairing furniture and fixtures for our store spaces and classroom environments. In addition to carpentry responsibilities, this position includes working as a blacksmith instructor to help teach our forging workshops. No prior experience in blacksmithing is necessary – our team will teach you how to forge! We're looking for someone eager to learn the craft and excited to share that passion with newcomers. Instructors must be available to work weekends. Professional carpentry experience is required for this position. (At this time, we are not offering on-the-job carpentry training.) However, forging experience is not required – we will fan the fires in your heart and train you to become the blacksmithing bard you aspire to be! The staff at Drunken Smithy is made up of a fun group of folks with diverse backgrounds and experiences – there is no singular path to finding your way to the forge. Job Title: Carpenter & Blacksmith Instructor Location: Lebanon, Pennsylvania Employment Type: Full-time (30–40hrs per week) Pay: $18 to $21 per hour depending on experience plus profit share This position does not include employee benefits. Carpentry Responsibilities • Create and repair wood products such as furniture, shields, and forged item accessories • Assist students in adding wooden handles to forged knives (sometimes solo, sometimes instructive) • Maintain and organize the woodshop and its inventory • Draft plans or blueprints • Participate in build-outs of storefront facades, structures, and in-shop furniture • Handle general repairs of furniture, fixtures, and workspaces as needed Blacksmithing Instruction Responsibilities • Provide a welcoming and entertaining environment for all students • Prepare the workspaces for workshops open to the public • Communicate shop safety for students and ensure that safety protocols are followed at all times • Demonstrate, instruct, and guide all stages of forging our regular project offerings through to completion • Operate forges, power hammers, grinders, and other machinery and power tools (with training provided) • Assist your team in regularly cleaning the shop • Facilitate axe throwing and observe customers in the axe throwing lanes • Manage the collection of workshop balances and retail sales via our point-of-sale Requirements • Must be able to demonstrate proficient carpentry skills • Must be available to work weekends (Friday, Saturday, Sunday) • Strong Interpersonal Skills • Effective Communication Skills • Provide versatility and adaptability as an instructor • Willing and able to learn to work with machinery • Adherence to Safety Protocols; Individuals will be trained and expected to operate shop machinery including but not limited to power hammers and grinders Our clientele is primarily an adult audience, however we are also regularly teaching teenagers and even children to forge. While some of our students have done work in similar industries or regularly work with power tools, many members of our clientele have never done anything like this before! Our blacksmithing instructors are expected to make the workshops accessible and fun for students of any age as well as for students with varying levels of experience.
