This hands-on role requires highly skilled welding in aluminum and stainless steel. You’ll manage projects from concept to completion, including spatial planning, creating sketches without prints, researching and selecting purchased components, and testing the final product. Key Responsibilities: • Lead fabrication projects from start to finish, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results. • Perform skilled welding in aluminum and stainless steel, ensuring that projects meet design and functionality standards. • Plan and create spatial layouts and sketches for fabrication without relying on prints. • Research, select, and procure necessary components and materials for projects. • Oversee and collaborate with a small team of 2-4 people, ensuring that tasks are completed according to project timelines and specifications. • Utilize knowledge of pipe fitting, PTOs, pumps, air systems, hydraulic systems, and truck & trailer electrical systems to complete projects. • Maintain strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively with team members, management, and other departments. Qualifications: • Associate’s degree or Bachelor’s degree in a related field is required. • Proven experience in welding and fabrication, especially in aluminum and stainless steel. • Experience in spatial planning, sketching designs, and overseeing fabrication projects without prints. • Knowledge of pipe fitting, PTOs, pumps, air systems, hydraulic systems, and truck & trailer electrical systems. • Strong leadership and communication skills, capable of managing a small team and keeping projects on track. • Ability to anticipate obstacles and develop solutions to ensure project success. Essential Functions Performed by the Position • Welds metal parts together using both gas welding or brazing and any combination of arc welding processes. • Perform related tasks such as thermal cutting and grinding. • Repairs broken or cracked parts, fills holes, and welds overlay metal parts. • May locate cracks using die penetrant NDT methods and repair cracks in large fabrications. • Positions and sets up components in preparation for weld repairs and/or fabrication. • Lays out parts and assemblies according to specifications. Creates templates and other work aids to hold and align parts. Able to rig (cranes) and fixture parts to be welded. • Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions and adjusts amperage, voltage, and speed during joining to assure required weld deposit. • Inspects grooves, angles, gap allowances, and related aspects of assembly to ensure conformance to specifications using micrometers, calipers, and related precision measuring instruments. • Pre-heat parts for effective welding. • Perform quality work checks to ensure the product meets quality standards, using a variety of inspection tools and devices. Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent. • 2-5 years’ experience with stick, TIG, and MIG welding in a manufacturing environment. • Heavy cross-section welding experience a plus.
