Welders work with steel and other metals to construct frameworks, support structures, and customized components that meet exact specifications, industry standards, and safety regulations. ROLE AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Read and interpret specifications & blueprints. • Lay out, fit, or connect parts to be welded, calculating production measurements, as necessary. • Set up & operate welding machines to fabricate metal products or assemblies. • Troubleshoot welding equipment problems. • Assemble, align, and clamp workpieces into holding fixtures to weld fabricated metal components according to design and specifications. • Inspect, measure, or test completed metal workpieces to ensure conformance to specifications, using measuring and testing devices. • Work with overhead cranes and forklifts. • Perform other shop duties such as cutting, assembly or kitting when needed. • Ensure safety, quality, production processes are followed; Uses required PPE and safely operates welding machines and tools. • Ensures that all cleaning and maintenance schedules are completed and maintained to promote a safe and efficient work environment. • A willingness to cross train and assist in other shop functions as needed. QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATION REQUIREMENTSCOMPETENCIES • Ability to pass 3g fcaw test. • Ability to pass 3g gmaw test. EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, CERTIFICATIONS • High school diploma or equivalent • Trade school certificate in welding a plus • Minimum of one year preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS • Ability to lift 50 lbs. frequently and 100 lbs. occasionally. • Prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing/walking/sitting. • Manual dexterity and mobility. • Considerable reaching, stooping, bending, kneeling, crouching. • Visual and auditory acuity.
