Summary This position will work in the welding department as part of MEI's vertically integrated manufacturing operations. Under direct supervision the Welder is responsible for completing welding tasks using their knowledge of, and experience with, various welding methods and materials. Essential Functions • Complete welding tasks using a full range of welding methods including TIG, Hand, Braze, and Orbital Welding and regularly work with various types of metals including SS, AL, Titanium, Foils, and brazing copper • Properly prepare weld surfaces • Perform fitting of assemblies • Complete rework of repair parts / product • Perform in process quality assurance activities and inspection to ensure parts and assemblies meet production specifications and standards Education, Experience, and Skills • High school diploma or equivalent • Minimum of 5+ years of related experience • Experience with welding tools including but not limited to: cold saw, pneumatic tools, portable band saw, grinders, polishing wheels, and standard inspection equipment • Experience working in ERP system, Epicor preferred • Must have strong English communication skills to understand verbal and written instructions, communicate with other employees • Able to read and understand drawings, work instructions and technical documents and specifications as necessary to perform the job functions • Basic math skills including geometry and some trigonometry, measurement skills including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) • Must be able to sit, stand, bend for long periods of time • Must be able to list up to 25 lbs frequently Salary Range: $21 - $35/hourly DOE About Means Engineering, Inc. • We are a contract manufacturer located in the Carlsbad Research Center next to the Carlsbad Airport • We serve the semiconductor, medical, aerospace, and defense industries • We offer competitive compensation and benefits including medical, dental, holidays, including paid winter shutdown, PTO plan, and monthly employee events ITAR Requirements This position requires use of information which is subject to the International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). This includes documenting the job/operation, documenting the time, and indicating conformance (including written comments to document/clarify transactions); work to meet job time standards · Provide on the job-training and guidance to Welders I and II · Assist process engineering in determining job time standards and developing new production processes for new product introduction (NPI) and for continuous improvement · Expected to work in a safe manner and in accordance with established operating procedures and practices · Observe all laws, regulations, and other applicable obligations wherever and whenever business is conducted on behalf of the company Education, Experience, and Skills To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to satisfactorily perform each of the essential functions listed above. · High school diploma or equivalent · 5+ years of related experience · Must have strong English communication skills to understand verbal and written instructions, communicate with other employees both verbally and in writing, follow directions and tasks lists, and participate in departmental team meetings and required training classes · Hold multiple weld qualifications as required including Fillet Welding and Butted Welding · Able to read and understand drawings, work instructions and technical documents and specifications as necessary to perform the job functions · Basic math skills including geometry and some trigonometry · Advanced measurement skills including Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) · Ability to interpret, apply, and document QC standards as part of the operation · Knowledge of tooling capabilities · Knowledge of safety standards for equipment being run · Familiar with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) principles · Ability to monitor operations and to quickly react to non-conforming operations as they occur · Ability to produce parts within very tight tolerances · Ability to measure, cut, or work on items with great accuracy · Ability to perform sanitary welding · Experience with welding equipment including but not limited to: cold saw, pneumatic tools, portable band saw, grinders, polishing wheels, standard inspection equipment, and plasma cutter Physical Demands The physical requirements for this position involve continuously remaining in a stationary position and occasionally moving throughout the work center. This position occasionally reaches overhead, and crouches or kneels to move bins. This position occasionally lifts or carries objects weighing less than 10lbs unassisted, occasionally lifts or carries objects weighing 11-25lbs unassisted, and occasionally lifts or carries 26-50lbs with assistance. This position frequently pushes or pulls objects to position them for work and pushes or pulls carts to transport product. This position requires the continuous use of hands/fingers for both general manipulation and fine manipulation to perform welding tasks. This position occasionally exchanges information with supervisors and coworkers regarding tasks and product. This position is continuously required to use vision while performing job duties.
