WYDOT is currently seeking a Project Engineer in Casper, Wyoming, to assist the Principal Engineer in performing advanced engineering tasks and supervising the activities of assigned Engineers and technicians on highway construction projects from their inception through design, construction, and contract completion. Human Resource Contact: 307-473-3243 / Madeline.miozzi@wyo.gov ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The listed functions are illustrative only and are not intended to describe every function that may be performed at the job level. • Supervises one or more construction projects through the management of personnel and resources to complete the required inspection, testing, and surveying for the project(s). • Makes decisions on behalf of the Department regarding projects of moderate to high complexity. • Tracks and documents quantities for payment to contractors for all projects. • Calculates and sets lines and grades for construction activities. • Serves as the Department's inspector on projects to ensure construction is completed according to the contract's plans and specifications. • Acts as the Department's representative on projects to other parties such as landowners, utilities, railroads, etc. • Reviews project documentation, analyzes data, and prepares final quantities for assigned projects. • Monitors Contract progress and costs. • Keeps the public and adjacent landowners aware and informed of ongoing construction. • Prepares engineer recommendations for the design of a variety of projects. • Researches and prepares land ownership maps, prepares, checks, and recommends changes to preliminary and final plan issuances. • Collects and prepares survey data used in the design of highway plans; locates sources and prepares agreements for surfacing material, borrowing, and water for construction projects; • Performs feasibility analysis to ensure cost-effective, constructible solutions. • Affixes a PE stamp to work products produced as required. • Directs survey crews setting construction stakes, checking documentation, measuring pay items, inspecting construction, and assisting with the project's final. • Assists with the supervision, management, and training of personnel involved in surveying, inspection, material testing, and documentation. • Trains, coaches, and mentors engineers and technicians. • Provides technical assistance to other programs, agencies, or outside entities. KNOWLEDGE: • Knowledge of methods and techniques of surveying and engineering drawing and calculation • Knowledge of concepts, principles, and practices of highway engineering and roadway planning, construction, and design • Knowledge of computer software used in the design and calculation of project information • Skills in interpersonal relations • Skills in oral and written communication • Skills in critical thinking, complex problem-solving, judgment, and decision-making • Skills in surveying, materials testing, documentation, and computer operation • Ability to interpret plans, specifications, and other project documentation and ensure contractors adhere to these documents throughout a project • Ability to determine personnel requirements to administer a project • Ability to know when to seek assistance with a problem from a higher authority MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Education: Bachelor's Degree (in Engineering) Experience: 1-2 years of progressive work experience in Engineering Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: Professional Engineer's (PE) License Required at time of hire - (Wyoming PE required within six months of hire date.) Directional Drill (HDD) Lead/Operator

Description: What you will do: • Install new network facilities multiple conduits, fiber, coaxial, gas, or electric (buried underground) • Operate proficiently Ditch Witch / Vermeer HDD Drills and be able to train others • Understand and be able to locate with different Locate systems (Subsite, DCI, UG Mag) and be able to train others • Must understand the reading of plans/ drawings • Must understand locate procedures and markings • Must be able to supervise a minimum of 5 people • Must be able to maintain a safe jobsite for company personnel, general public and uphold OSHA Construction Standard as specified in OSHA 29 CFR 1926 • Perform company required paperwork (JSA, Daily Crew reports, Utility damage forms, equipment maintenance reports and redline prints) • Pothole existing utilities, place various sized handholes/manholes, excavating trenches/holes, core drilling building entrances • Haul and move equipment from project to project • Perform other duties as required Requirements: Requirements: • 2-3 years minimum Utility Construction experience • At least 21 years of age and hold a current driver’s license; CDL A endorsement a plus. • Must have or willing to be certified in OSHA 10 hour (OSHA 29 CFR 1926) within 3 months of position. • Able to perform manual tasks requiring frequent walking, stooping, crouching, reaching, lifting, digging, pushing and pulling • Able to lift materials weighing up to 75 pounds • Able to work outside in all elements • Must be able to travel occasionally for extended periods of time (overnight and weekly stays required) up to 50% of time • Able to pass all pre-employment checks, including substance screen, criminal background, and motor vehicle record checks. • Must have an eye for detail • Must be able to work nights and weekends, if necessary • The ability to respond quickly to sounds • The ability to move safely over uneven terrain or in confined spaces • The ability to see and respond to dangerous situations • The ability to safely climb ladders while carrying 40 pounds • The ability to wear personal protective gear correctly as required by OSHA
