CNC Machine Operator (1st Shift)

Description: Produces machined parts by operating a computer numerical control (CNC) machine, performing a standard series of progressive machining operations to close and exacting tolerances. Machinist Tool & Die

JOB REQUIREMENTS: Primary responsibilities include all aspects of running a Hurco CNC vertical machining center, Southwestern CNC Lathe, manual or CNC vertical mill, and other CNC or manual toolroom equipment. Responsible for studying blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. If issues such as unclear or conflicting information arise, one is responsible to resolve these issues with toolroom supervisor prior to proceeding. Responsible for determining appropriate cutting speeds, feeds, depths of cuts, cutting tools etc. used to machine work pieces into finished parts. Starts and observes CNC machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining, and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings. Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications. Fits and assembles parts precisely into complete assembly. Verifies dimensions and alignment of assembly. Accuracy and attention to detail is a must. Also will be involved in the machining and fabrication of equipment parts for redesign or replacement of parts for extrusion equipment. Programs using Conversational or G-Code with the main focus being G-Code, sets up and operates Hurco CNC vertical machining center, Southwestern CNC Lathe, manual or CNC vertical mill, surface grinder, drill press, band saws for the manufacture of plastic profile extrusion tooling and secondary finishing fixtures and tooling. Set-up of jigs and fixtures for production of secondary operations. Design & Drawing of tooling, fixtures, parts etc., is done with the aid of CAD/CAM software. Must have knowledge with and be familiar with Mastercam and Fusion 360. Fabricates simpler parts, performs simpler operations on manual or CNC vertical mill, lathe or surface grinder, templates, finger guides (determining how many and what shape), cooling shoes, tubing heads, gauges, gate adapters, spacers, and replacement parts. Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or work piece as guides for subsequent machining. Performs any routine maintenance on toolroom equipment as needed, including working with service technicians to diagnose machine faults and failures. Responsible to communicate machine faults and failures to management for remedy of the situation. Confers with toolroom supervisor, engineers, production personnel, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems, production or secondary issues, quality issues or customer complaints or concerns. Performs routine preventative maintenance on all toolroom equipment and other machines such as changing filters or fluids and cleaning with compressed air or solvents. Maintains good housekeeping in work areas. Works with all co-workers safely and with professionalism. Follows all safety procedures, company rules, guidelines, work instructions. As assigned or as needed may be assigned to perform basic operation of Charmilles EDM wire machine. Including transferring programs to machine from workstation, fixturing work pieces, referencing work pieces and starting programs. Maintains inventory of toolroom consumables such as but not limited to drills, end mills, carbide inserts, reamers etc., bolts and hardware, adapter blanks, die blanks, or other raw materials and communicates needs to tooling supervisor for purchase. Communicates needs for special tooling and fixturing to tooling supervisor for purchase. Communicates needs for replacement parts for toolroom machines and equipment to tooling supervisor. Keeps accurate records of time and materials needed for each new tool, die, fixture, part, etc. along with each machining operation and it's times. This is needed to track for R&D. Responsible for maintaining a clean work environ ent.
