Our CNC Set Up Machinists work in a newly renovated, air-conditioned facility with loads of natural light - we brought in 17 brand new CNC machines, and we work with all live-tooling lathes and state of the art mills. Position is 1st shift and follows a 4/10 schedule: Monday - Thursday, 5am to 3pm. JOB SUMMARY This position will work with cross-functional teams to support our New Product Development and production in a variety of machining areas. Operate any single CNC machine tool such as lathe/mills/machining centers etc.as well as some manual machines to produce any proven parts per required print specifications, generally holding to tolerances of .0002 and RA Finishes of 32 micro or better. PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Set up and operate various CNC and manual machine tools such as drill press, lapping machine, cut off machine, grinding machine, broach, etc • Complete prove outs for New Product Development. • Load and edit programs via "dry-run" simulation if CNC is being utilized. • Make necessary offset adjustments to CNC machine. • Read and interpret work order operation information to select proper work center and identify required tooling and/or programs necessary to perform the operation. • Obtain and install proper tooling such as jaws, chucks, faceplates, spindle liners, arbors, centers and cutting tools according to proper set up procedures. • Use various gages and precision instruments (i.e. CMM, calipers, micrometers, etc) to inspect production pieces to make necessary program and tooling adjustments. Inspect machined parts and complete a statistical process control report, where used. • Process work orders via SAP in a timely manner. • Assist manufacturing engineering in process improvements. • Return tooling and report any difficulties with tooling or material. • Train other employees as needed. • Assist other departments/cells with set up and running of manual and CNC machines as needed. • Practice Lean and Continuous Improvement initiatives • Additional duties as assigned by supervisor/lead. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES • Ability to read, write and process all instructions, written or verbally. • Ability to read and understand basic manufacturing mechanical blueprints. • Must have good basic math skills in addition, subtraction, division, and multiplication. • Must have basic computer skills and knowledge. • Ability to use lifting and moving equipment as required. • Ability to work accurately with basic keyboard and monitor interfaced with the mainframe computer to enter work order data and correct qualities as required. • Ability to read, prove-out, understand, and adjust new, complex programs as needed. • Ability to setup both mills and lathes. • Ability to proficiently run a wide variety of CNC machines and parts in multiple departments throughout the business both for production and NPD. • Ability to produce complex machined parts with high attention to detail and quality. • Must have a working knowledge in using precision measuring instruments including micrometer, depth micrometer, dial indicators and others. • Ability to follow all EHS/safety guidelines including but not limited to safe crane/hoist operation, proper lifting techniques, following all PPE requirements. • Ability to use or learn manufacturing ERP system. • Ability to communicate effectively and work as part of a team. • Quality oriented mindset with a high level of attention to detail. • Ability to troubleshoot and make needed offset/programming adjustments at a high level. • Ability to float to variety of work cells and teams as needed. • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve individually and/or as a team. • Ability to complete all tasks in a safe and accurate manner. • Demonstrate exceptional quality performance consistently over time. • Demonstrate respect and positive attitude. • Willingness to work overtime as needed and alter hours as business needs dictate. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE • A high school diploma or equivalent preferred; or combination of education and experience. • Minimum of 8 years machining experience, demonstrating proficiency working in multiple cells on multiple types of machines and/or controls. • Experience with mills, lathes, mill-turns, 5-axis machining centers and manual machines as needed. • Previous set-up experience. • Programming experience preferred.
