Key Responsibilities and Expectations: We are looking for a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team. As a Manual Machinist for IPS, you will identify problems and make necessary adjustments as they relate to industrial AC/DC electric motors and generators. You will use a variety of manual machine tools and balancing equipment for rotating machinery while following service center safety procedures. You will need to have excellent attention to detail and an ability to work from drawings, sketches, and blueprints. • Operate conventional manual machining tools including engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, grinders, drilling machines, and related equipment • Safely use overhead, gantry cranes, lift trucks, and associated lift rigging • Perform mechanical measurements using portable mechanical instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, and portable vibration measurement equipment • Machine and fabricate parts using engine lathes, grinders, and drill presses • Draw accurate prints for parts needing to be fabricated Qualifications and Competencies: • At least 2 years related experience, 6 preferred using manual machining equipment, or equivalent education and experience preferred • Ability to read micrometer measuring equipment • Motor shop, machine shop, tool & die stamping, or oil field experience preferred • Ability to operate manual lathes of various sizes and dimensions • Ability to operate electro-plating equipment • Ability to work with tolerances of +/- .001 • Ability to perform basic math functions • Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required Benefits • Paid Time Off • 401k Employer Match • On-the-job Training • Tuition Reimbursement Program • Medical, Dental and Vision plans • Safety shoe & glasses reimbursement • And more! As the All-Around Machinist, the team member will: • Studies sample parts, blueprints, drawings, and engineering information to determine methods and sequence of operations to fabricate product. • Operates metalworking machine tools to machine parts to specifications. • Fabricates, assembles, and modifies tooling to produce parts and assemblies. • Lays out and verifies dimensions of parts, using precision measuring and marking instruments and knowledge of trigonometry. • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines. • Measures, examines, and tests completed units to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications utilizing the latest measurement equipment and other inspection technologies. • Observes and listens to operating machines or equipment to diagnose machine malfunction and determine need for adjustment or repair. • Cuts and shapes metal to specified shape. • Establishes work procedures for fabricating new structural products, using a variety of metalworking machines. • Confers with engineering, supervisory, and manufacturing personnel to exchange technical information. Abilities and Other Skills • Product Inspection - Inspecting and evaluating the quality of products utilizing the latest inspection tools and techniques as required. • Operation and Control - Controlling operations of equipment or systems. • Mathematics - Using mathematics to solve problems. • Operation Monitoring - Watching gauges, dials, or other indicators to make sure a machine is working properly. • Operations Analysis - Analyzing needs and product requirements to create a design. • Equipment Selection - Determining the kind of tools and equipment needed to do a job • Troubleshooting - Determines cause of operation error and decides what to do. • Problem Identification - Identifying the nature of problems. • Active Learning - Working with new material or information to grasp its implications. • Solution Appraisal - Observing and evaluating the outcomes of a problem solution to identify lessons learned or redirect efforts. • Time Management - Managing one's own time. • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents. Required Education and Experience • High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED); or two to three years related experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
