Key Responsibilities and Expectations: We are looking for a skilled Manual Machinist to join our team. As a Manual Machinist for IPS, you will identify problems and make necessary adjustments as they relate to industrial AC/DC electric motors and generators. You will use a variety of manual machine tools and balancing equipment for rotating machinery while following service center safety procedures. You will need to have excellent attention to detail and an ability to work from drawings, sketches, and blueprints. • Operate conventional manual machining tools including engine lathes, horizontal lathes, milling machines, grinders, drilling machines, and related equipment • Safely use overhead, gantry cranes, lift trucks, and associated lift rigging • Perform mechanical measurements using portable mechanical instruments such as dial indicators, micrometers, and portable vibration measurement equipment • Machine and fabricate parts using engine lathes, grinders, and drill presses • Draw accurate prints for parts needing to be fabricated Qualifications and Competencies: • At least 2 years related experience, 6 preferred using manual machining equipment, or equivalent education and experience preferred • Ability to read micrometer measuring equipment • Motor shop, machine shop, tool & die stamping, or oil field experience preferred • Ability to operate manual lathes of various sizes and dimensions • Ability to operate electro-plating equipment • Ability to work with tolerances of +/- .001 • Ability to perform basic math functions • Ability to understand, perform and retain various job-related training, operational, and safety procedures • Ability to work overtime and weekends as required Benefits • Paid Time Off • 401k Employer Match • On-the-job Training • Tuition Reimbursement Program • Medical, Dental and Vision plans • Safety shoe & glasses reimbursement • And more! Primary Responsibilities - Performs any combination of (but not limited to) the following duties according to specific department guidelines: • Verify dimensions, alignments, and clearances of finished parts for conformance to specifications, using measuring instruments such as calipers, gauge blocks, micrometers, or dial indicators. • Set up and operate conventional or computer numerically controlled machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, or grinders to cut, bore, grind, or otherwise shape parts to prescribed dimensions and finishes. • Visualize and compute dimensions, sizes, shapes, and tolerances of assemblies, based on specifications. • Study blueprints, sketches, models, or specifications to plan sequences of operations for fabricating tools, dies, or assemblies. • Fit and assemble parts to make, repair, or modify dies, jigs, gauges, and tools, using machine tools, hand tools, or welders. • Inspect finished dies for smoothness, contour conformity, and defects. • Select metals to be used from a range of metals and alloys, based on properties such as hardness or heat tolerance. • Lift, position, and secure machined parts on surface plates or worktables, using hoists, vises, v-blocks, or angle plates. • File, grind, shim, and adjust different parts to properly fit them together. • Smooth and polish flat and contoured surfaces of parts or tools, using scrapers, abrasive stones, files, emery cloths, or power grinders. • Measure, mark, and scribe metal or plastic stock to lay out machining, using instruments such as protractors, micrometers, scribes, or rulers. • Conduct test runs with completed tools or dies to ensure that parts meet specifications, making adjustments as necessary. • Design jigs, fixtures, and templates for use as work aids in the fabrication of parts or products. • Cut, shape, and trim blanks or blocks to specified lengths or shapes, using power saws, power shears, rules, and hand tools. • Set up and operate drill presses to drill and tap holes in parts for assembly. • Set pyrometer controls of heat-treating furnaces and feed or place parts, tools, or assemblies into furnaces to harden. • Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications; establishing personal networks. • Maintains continuity among work teams by documenting and communicating actions, irregularities, and continuing needs. • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. • Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations. • Effectively communicate problems and solutions to resolve mechanical problems. • Participate in the on-the-job training of apprentices as needed. • Use computerized maintenance system to retrieve and enter information. • Observe safe work practices and ensure work does not endanger others. • Perform other duties as required We offer competitive compensation and comprehensive benefits and programs.
