CNC Machinist

Facility: Trenton Plants General Description The CNC Machinist is responsible to effectively setup and operate the CNC equipment to which they are assigned, safely and efficiently. He/she must be able to read and understand drawing/prints. He/she must be able to use Quality Control measuring tools to ensure a quality product is produced. He/she must understand “G” & “M” codes and be able to edit machine programs. Specific Duties • Follow all applicable environmental, health and safety rules and procedures and immediately report all dangerous situations, near-misses, and injuries. • Participate in developing and updating risk assessments and review all applicable risk assessments annually. • Read and understand the drawings/prints required for the assigned job, including but not limited to size and tolerance and finish requirements associated with the operation being set up. • Know how to use micrometers, calipers, height gauges, depth gauges, and any other measuring device required to ensure a quality product is being produced. • Knowledge of basic “G” & “M” codes and ability to read and edit machine programs at the machines. Basic computer skills to upload and download machine programs. • Demonstrate the ability to instruct an operator in the loading, machining process, unloading, deburring and any other functions required to complete the operation step for the part being set up. • Help operators address any “issues” that may arise during the machining process including, but not limited to, making adjustments for tool wear and changing tools when they become dull or broken. • Ability to use or learn to use a computer to enter production information into a production tracking system. • Ability to complete paperwork requirements for each operation, including setup sheets and Serial Number Tracking Sheet and any others that might be required for the operators to assume responsibility for the operation of the equipment being set up. • Must keep work area clean, neat and orderly as required to maintain a safe and clean work environment. • Strive to improve workstation performance, reducing part-to-part times, increasing production efficiency, decreasing setup times through more efficient fixtures, work holding and tooling. Always work to improve quality at all levels. • Take directions from immediate supervisor and designated management representatives. • Work overtime as required. Qualifications • Advanced CNC machining skills, including work holding, tooling, setup, fixture and tool offsets and program editing is required. Being able to hold close tolerances as required. • Knowledge of quality control measuring tool is required. • Ability to read and understand manufacturing – assembly drawings is required. • Good communication skills are required. • Ability to lift 70 pounds on a regular basis, as much as ten times an hour. • Must be able to work in a non-air conditioned environment for a minimum of eight (8) hours per day.
