As a Machinist at PRL, you will be responsible for operating various manual horizontal or vertical milling and boring machines, as well as lathes. Your main duty will be machining a wide range of parts to customer specifications from castings, bar stock, and other materials. You will work according to blueprints, standards, specifications, and verbal and written procedures to ensure the highest quality and precision in every part you produce. Job Qualifications: Education: • High school diploma or equivalent required. • Advanced education, such as an associate’s degree, is preferred. Experience: • Related machining experience is highly desirable. • An appropriate combination of education and experience will be considered. • Skills: • Ability to operate manual machine tools (set-ups, machine positioning, etc.), read and interpret blueprints, and use a wide range of measuring tools. • Knowledge of shop math, trigonometry, and geometric dimensioning and tolerancing is essential. • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and read/write in English. • Ability to function independently with minimal supervision. Job Duties and Responsibilities: 1. Set up and operate a variety of manual and CNC machines efficiently, ensuring quality and safety after a proper training period. Use hand tools and measuring instruments. 2. Operate CNC machines, including familiarity with G and M programming codes, and the ability to make minor program edits at the machine. 3. Demonstrate knowledge of proper speeds, feeds, work holding methods, cutting tools, and their materials and shapes, as well as print/drawing interpretation, routine equipment and machine maintenance, and measuring/finishing techniques. 4. Machine parts to within tolerances as close as .0002 inches. 5. Assist in designing jigs and fixtures for machining parts. 6. Follow verbal and written instructions, sketches, and blueprints. Communicate with coworkers both verbally and in writing, and offer guidance to others when written procedures are unavailable. 7. Operate forklift trucks, overhead cranes, and hand/floor trucks as needed. 8. Verify that the information on the documents matches the respective parts. Record details according to instructions. Keep accurate records of work done as needed. 9. Keep a safe, clean, and organized workspace. Carry out additional responsibilities as assigned. 10. Work independently with minimal supervision, primarily for scheduling, supply needs, clarifying confusing instructions, and addressing direct or indirect needs as they arise. 11.
