Grinder Machinist (with tooling experience)

Summary We are seeking a skilled Grinder Machinist with strong experience in precision grinding and tooling to support our machining operations. The ideal candidate will set up and operate a variety of grinding machines to produce precision parts and tooling components used in production and maintenance. Responsibilities: • Set up and operate surface, cylindrical, centerless, or ID/OD grinding machines to produce tight-tolerance components. • Grind tooling and parts to blueprint or engineering specifications using appropriate methods and measurement tools. • Select appropriate wheels, feeds, speeds, and fixtures based on material and finish requirements. • Maintain, dress, and true grinding wheels as needed. • Inspect parts throughout the grinding process using calipers, micrometers, gauges, and other precision measuring tools. • Perform basic machine maintenance and keep work area clean and organized. • Read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and process sheets. • Work with toolmakers and engineers to develop custom tooling solutions as needed. • Follow safety and quality standards in all aspects of machining and production Qualifications • High school diploma or equivalent; trade school or machining certification a plus. • 3+ years of experience operating grinding machines, preferably in a toolroom or precision machining environment. • Strong knowledge of tooling principles, including tool sharpening and fixture setup. • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and GD&T. • Proficient with manual and CNC grinding equipment (preferred but not required). • Solid understanding of different metals and grinding wheel applications. • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. • Must be detail-oriented with strong problem-solving skills. Preferred Experience: • Experience with toolroom equipment such as lathes, mills, and EDM. • Familiarity with carbide, steel, and hardened tool steels. • Background in mold, die, or aerospace components is a plus.
