CNC Machinist 3rd shift

Job Description Summary Job Description Working At Our Beavercreek Site GE Aerospace operations have been part of the Beavercreek community for over 70 years! Our Beavercreek facility manufactures gas turbine tubes, ducts, and manifolds, and also has complex machining, fabrication and investment casting capabilities. Product engineering, new product development and testing is performed on site. This facility also does repair and overhaul of tubes, ducts, and manifolds. We have been awarded OSHAS’s highest safety rating. Role Overview • Complies with and supports all GE policies and GE Aviation procedures as listed in the site handbook or other company or functional related documents. • Set-up and operate CNC mills and/or lathes. • Must be able to work from and follow written instruction precisely (MOS, routers, engrg drawings). • Types of materials involved are castings, forgings, screw machine blanks, turret lathe blanks, sawed blanks and bar stock. • Set-ups involve changing chuck jaws, tool holders, fixtures, boring bars, drills, reamers, and setting tools. • Edit CNC programs and make offsets to insure acceptable parts. • May be required to write own programs and operate multiple machines. • Acquire CVP operator status within 60 days of start date. • Work to established Lean Manufacturing guidelines involving one-piece flow, standard work, 6S, set-up reduction and wet process lines. • Maintain high housekeeping standards to ensure safe and efficient work areas, including cleaning chips from around machine and keeping coolant/machine fluids off shop floor and maintaining organization of work area to established standards. The Ideal Candidate • Set-up experience and ability to load offsets and perform program edits • Experience in using Optical Comparator • Demonstrated experience or successful completion of classes in geometric tolerancing • Demonstrated work experience in reading and interpreting blueprints • Must be able to run both CNC and manual equipment concurrently as required in a cell • Able to work effectively in a cellular, team oriented environment • Must be able to accurately complete all paperwork relative to production • Ability to read and understand routers and MOS’s (Manufacturing Operation Sheets) • Able to read and understand CVP (Characteristic Verification Plan) Training manual and successfully complete CVP Training Program. Required Qualifications • High School Diploma/ GED • Minimum of a completed Certified Program in Machining or, • Minimum of 1 year machining experience with CNC lathes and/or mills or have completed a Machining Apprentice Program Preferred Qualifications • Experience in using Optical Comparator • Ability to verify and inspect own work - experience in using micrometers, plug gages, height gage, and surface plates, etc. for layout of machined parts. • Produces error free products • Must be able to work under general direction with minimal supervision. • Receives guidance in planning and scheduling work Additional Information • Wages are $21.84 - $27.30 per hour based on experience. • Additional $1.50 Premium Pay for 3rd shift • Able to work overtime (50-60 hours per week) as needed • Your safety is important to us, so we provide most protective gear including hearing protection if needed. Summary Responsible for simple to complex set-ups and operation of CNC equipment, understands concepts and able to troubleshoot the program, tooling maintenance, training of employees and ensuring that all required processes are completed to produce parts that meet quality and ISO standards. Job Duties And Responsibilities • Performs simple to complex set-ups and operation of conventional, special-purpose, and computerized numerical control (CNC) machines and machining centers to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts and fits and assembles machined parts into complete units, applying knowledge of machine shop theory and procedures, shop mathematics, machine ability of materials, and layout techniques. Can do multi-tasking with several set-ups running multiple machines at one time. Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings to programmed control data ensuring functionality and performance. • Review and understand blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished work piece, sequence of operations, and set up requirements. • Aligns and secures holding fixtures (such as collets, vices, indicating vices), cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines, such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and tooling pre-setter. • Understand, calculate, and set controls to regulate machining factors, such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and enter command to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media; observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media, as required. • Verifies conformance of finished work piece to specifications, using precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, comparator, height gages, and gage blocks. • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. • Comply with company requirements in completing essential documentation, as required. • Train, assist, and support employees in producing quality parts and in completing all process requirements. • Assure all policies and procedures are followed and safety precautions are taken to reduce the risk of injury. • Maintain a clean work area and assure safe operation of all equipment. • Must be available on reasonable notice for unscheduled overtime to meet production schedules. • Perform and document Operator Preventive Maintenance operations, as needed. • Must fully understand setup and operation of at least two machining fields (mills, chucker lathes, Swiss lathes, grinders, wire EDMs, etc.) (for Pierceton campus) or different types/manufacturers of same machining field (for non-Pierceton campuses). • Fits and assembles parts into complete assembly, using jigs, fixtures, surface plate, surface table, hand tools, and power tools. • Assist production in all areas. • Assist with tooling / fixturing build. • Occasionally, miscellaneous non-recurring duties may be assigned such as, but not limited to, packing, shipping, unpacking and sorting, inspection, cleaning, finishing, deburring, etc. • May assist cell lead with the following duties: • Follow the production schedule to drive schedule completion and maximize efficiencies. • Know which team member will be running which parts/machines or equipment during their shift. Make sure team members are familiar with any problem areas. • Inspecting parts and paperwork in a timely manner before moving order. Visual inspection of some parts in the order. Correct part counts. Paperwork completed correctly. • Identify non-conforming parts and initiate QHF process, if required. • Update cell boards/metrics and present cell data during management walks, as required. • Assist/lead daily meeting covering Safety, Quality or shift issues. • Keep production/machines running. Assist with or find a resource to ensure proactive communication to reduce machine wait time: • For machine set ups. • For team members when they have production issues/problems. • When a machine goes down to get it back up and running as soon as possible. • Provide on-the-job training, knowing the skills of team members and provide training to enhance their skills and ensure documentation is completed. • Process improvements/6S. • Give feedback to programmers on program changes, if applicable. • Identify process improvements and insure they are implemented with communication to the Cell Leader, ME, QE or Programmer. • Perform 6S audits, work with 6S team. • Communication with other set-up employees. • Identify any items needed for production and ensure they are available. For example, gages, fixtures, and special tooling. • Provide input regarding annual reviews and promotions of team members to Cell Lead and Production Manager. • Set the example for team members to follow in all areas of personal performance, behavior and adherence to policies and procedures. KSA's • CNC programming or experience preferred with ability to edit programs. • Ability to work with minimal supervision. Excellent problem-solving skills. • Ability to handle multiple tasks and prioritize accordingly. • Ability to read blueprints. Knowledge of GD&T. Complete knowledge of G and M codes. • Ability to be a team player. • Ability to mentor others. • Leadership skills preferred. Work Environment Work performed in a production environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions prevalent at the time (for Maintenance & Receiving only).
