Operator - Milling Machine

PURPOSE: Perform duties to set the Milling Machine up for operation, to maintain a smooth, consistent and correctly aligned operation. JOB DUTIES: Check all fluid levels at the beginning of engine startup for the day. Monitor and maintain gauges, fluid levels, operation and function throughout the day during operation. Maintain awareness of unusual noises or operations and bring any exceptions to the attention of the foreman. The ability to perform light mechanical adjustments and to assist mechanic performing repairs on assigned equipment. Assist with the lubrication and fueling of the Milling Machine. Responsible for control and operation of the milling machine. Operates milling machine to properly mill asphalt to desired specifications based on usage. Manipulates hand or foot levers to control movements of milling machine that mills asphalt on roadways and related surfaces such as parking lots, streets, etc. May perform other related duties, such as preventive maintenance on all milling machinery. The operator is responsible for the efficient working condition of the equipment and is expected to perform minor servicing and maintenance or refer major problems to the Foreman or Superintendent. The ability to work at nights and work extended shifts when project dictates. Follow safety rules and keep equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Perform other related duties as assigned. KNOWLEDGE: Some use of reading and writing, adding and subtracting of whole numbers. Following instructions. Use of fixed gauges.
