Job Title: Machinist Job Description As a Machinist, you will use precision tools, machinery, and equipment to fabricate and shape parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal. Your role involves reading and interpreting engineering drawings and blueprints, selecting and aligning tools and materials, and ensuring all tasks are performed safely and efficiently. Responsibilities • Use precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathes, manual milling machines, drill presses, hydraulic presses, band saws, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment. • Fabricate and shape parts such as tools and machine parts out of metal. • Properly and safely select, align, secure, and remove holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines. • Recognize, deploy, and properly use inserts, fixtures, and tooling. • Read and interpret engineering drawings and blueprints of work to be performed and follow instructions. • Determine the proper tools required to perform given tasks. • Operate and utilize lifting aids as necessary to perform work. • Use gauges and precision measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements. • Perform daily, regular cleaning and light maintenance tasks on machinery and equipment. • Track parts and jobs in Travelers. • Perform all tasks in a safe and responsible manner while maintaining a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures and rules. • Turn, drill, tap, bore, polish, and thread machine processes. • Operate heavy industrial lathes, grinders, boring mills, planers, and portable tools Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $28.00 - $36.00/hr. If you're passionate about precision machining and seeking a challenging, rewarding opportunity, this could be the shop for you! In this role, you'll be responsible for setting up and operating CNC and manual machines with precision, fabricating and repairing machine components, and ensuring quality standards are met. Required Skills & Experience: • Machine setup experience. • Ability to load and unload parts. • Proficiency in reading blueprints. • Ability to operate machines independently. • Capability to QC own parts (final inspection done by an inspector). • Understanding of speeds and feeds. • MasterCam experience (not required for manual machinists). Preferred Skills: • Experience operating Heavy Industrial Lathes, Grinders, Boring Mills, Planers, and Portable Tools. • Knowledge of turning, drilling, tapping, boring, honing, polishing, and threading. • Large part machining experience preferred (e.g., ship propeller shafts, steering gear). • Forklift and overhead crane experience preferred. Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED required. • 5-10 years of machining experience preferred. • Experience with Fanuc, Mazatrol, Okuma, DMG/Mori, or Heidenhain CNC controls. • Basic knowledge of G-Code and M-Code for CNC programming. • Ability to maintain 0.001" tolerances. • Understanding of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T). • Experience setting up jobs on vertical and horizontal CNC machining centers and CNC turning centers. • Strong mechanical aptitude and problem-solving skills. • Proficiency in reading blueprints and using precision measuring tools. • Basic math skills, including fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions. • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team. • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel. Physical Requirements: • Ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs as needed. • Frequent standing, walking, reaching, stooping, kneeling, and climbing ladders. • Ability to move products using an overhead crane. • Good vision is required, including close, distance, color, and depth perception. • Some computer work is required for job tracking and documentation.
