The customer support level in this role is important as a need for quickness and precision in executing work and delivering results in a timely manner is critical to the success of the project and satisfying the customer. EWI Machinist’s support research and development projects that focus on many materials joining, forming, and testing processes. They mainly work on CNC or manual machining workstations to execute project work and tasks for customers. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: • Apply knowledge and demonstrated expertise in the execution of tasks/duties related to the operation and programming of machining equipment • Prep, program, and operate industrial machining equipment; set up equipment and/or component to the exact specifications of project requirements and/or customer’s needs • Perform tasks in support of research projects; routinely support engineers and project managers in project planning processes by identifying and estimating the level of effort required for proposed projects • Assemble or otherwise produce designed tools, fixtures, and enhancements • Continuously develop and apply depth of knowledge in machining systems • Maintain accurate and legible records of project work and test results • Support equipment preventative maintenance schedule and calibration efforts as needed • Achieve and strive for highest quality standards in work • Continuously meet and occasionally exceed (where necessary) project schedules and customer expectations and needs • Achieve established work-area cleanliness standards and maintain a high degree of organization in work area(s); follow and support 5S program efforts • Perform work in a safe manner and adhere to safety programs, processes, and procedures set forth for the specific process and for company safety programs in general KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: • Demonstrated skill in the use of machining systems (CNC Lathe, CNC Mill, Waterjet, Wire EDM) • Demonstrated operational knowledge of industrial machining equipment • Blueprint reading and interpretation • Basic metrology experience (calipers, micrometers, optical comparators, etc.) • Knowledgeable of MS Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) • Ability to work well with ever-changing priorities and/or situations • Exhibit and maintain positive, solutions-oriented attitude toward work and co-workers • Excellent organizational skills and ability to work well under stress, despite numerous interruptions • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail in assigned tasks on a consistent basis • Outstanding interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with all levels of associates • Team-oriented attitude and focus with strong ability to collaborate with others PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Laboratory/light production floor with ventilation, climate-control system, moderate lighting, and moderate noise level; • Use finger dexterity to type, adjust, move, handle, perform, operate, install, attach, remove, apply, grasp, manipulate, and measure; • Frequently move, transport, rotate, reach, pull, twist, adjust position, push, stoop, bend, and crouch; and • Lift ten to 40 pounds on a frequent basis and 40 to 80 pounds occasionally EDUCATION: • High School Diploma or its equivalent • Associate’s or technical degree in relevant area of study is considered favorable EXPERIENCE: • Ten (10) or more years of experience operating machining systems is preferred • Formal industrial training or apprenticeship is preferred • Experience in an applied R&D laboratory is considered a plus EOE/M/F/Disability/Protected Veteran Status Accommodations Individuals who need reasonable accommodations under the ADA in order to participate in the search and/or application process should contact Human Resources at (614) 688-5000.
