Electrical Technician

NRE is searching for Electrical Techs to work in our Mt. Vernon, IL facility! NRE specializes in new and remanufactured locomotives. We are global leaders in the rail, marine, and power industries! As an Electrical Tech at NRE, you will be installing, repairing, testing and maintaining all electrical apparatus on locomotives. All repairs at NRE are performed in accordance with FRA, industry and company specifications. We are looking for a candidate with experience that includes background in wiring install, gear switches, motors and electrical components. Experience working with blueprints is a plus!! We are looking for someone who has great attendance and punctuality, as well as a positive attitude and problem-solving skills. Job Responsibilities/Tasks: • Work from written instructions and blueprints • Climb on top of the locomotives to inspect fans and to assist in making repairs as needed • Remove and install locomotive batteries • Must be able to correctly use various hand tools sagely such as: multimeters, meggers, high pots, motor generator sets, conduit benders and power crimpers • Ability to work overhead from ladders and platforms • Experience in the use of electrical hand tools such as: drills, pipe threader and drill press • Assists in or performs FRA inspections on all types of locomotives • Sets and tests control and power circuits on locomotives, shop machinery and equipment • Repairs and qualifies direct current generator motors, alternator and alternating current motors • Modifies electrical circuits from blueprints • Maintains shop welders, cranes, lighting and other shop machinery and equipment as needed • Keep work area clean from debris • Other duties as assigned Qualifications: • Previous electrical experience • Have the ability to adapt to different situations and manage stress • Demonstrate good teamwork skills and maintain positive interactions with others • Good verbal, reading comprehension and writing skills Work Environment: • Day shift work, with occasional overtime • Must have a high school diploma or GED • Experience working with blueprints and knowledge of electrical theory • Must have the ability to do heavy lifting, carrying and installing parts ranging in weight from 0-75 pounds. • Work in a shop environment and outside in all weather conditions • Occasionally work in confined spaces and at elevated heights • Frequent stooping, lifting, kneeling, bending, crouching and climbing We offer medical, dental, and vision benefits, as well as a 401k match and paid life insurance policy.
