Job Title: Locomotive ElectricianPay: $19 - $25 per hourLocation: Mayfield, KYFull time / Benefits / Weekly PayJob Overview:We are seeking a skilled Locomotive Electrician to join our team in Mayfield, Kentucky, responsible for the efficient inspection, troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, and installation of locomotive mechanical and electrical systems. This role involves working with diesel engines, motors, generators, air brakes, and various mechanical and electrical components to ensure compliance with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA), company, and customer specifications.Our positions are full-time, year-round employment with paid training. We offer:5 Days of PTO6 Paid HolidaysUp to 50% of health insurance premiums paid by ImpactAccess to a retirement plan, financial fitness, and employee savings programsKey Responsibilities:Conduct inspections and ensure compliance with FRA, Association of American Railroads (AAR), and American Public Transportation Association (APTA) standards.Perform troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on locomotive mechanical and electrical systems to ensure proper operation within design limits.Complete detailed inspection and repair reports in accordance with company and FRA guidelines.Diagnose, install, and repair locomotive components, including pumps, radiators, compressors, and electrical systems.Utilize precision instruments and specialized tooling to test and verify the operation of locomotive components.Read and interpret diesel engine manuals, locomotive schematics, and maintenance instructions accurately.Analyze and correct faults related to inspection, troubleshooting, and maintenance of locomotive equipment.Assist in additional repairs and maintenance as directed by supervision.Properly utilize tools and equipment, including torque wrenches, cutting torches, and forklifts, ensuring safety and accuracy.Advanced Responsibilities:Test all locomotive components based on FRA standards to ensure proper functionality.Utilize advanced diagnostic tools and computers for troubleshooting.Train and mentor junior electricians and technicians.Qualifications:Skill Level III: 0-2 years of experience as an electrician (locomotive preferred) or equivalent training in diesel, automotive, or aircraft mechanics.Skill Level II: 2-5 years of experience as a locomotive electrician; technical certifications may substitute for experience.Skill Level I: 5+ years of experience as a locomotive electrician.Preferred Skills:Certified Electrician with knowledge of locomotive and aircraft systems.Familiarity with locomotive diesel engine components and systems.Physical Requirements:Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. and work in confined spaces.Position requires standing, walking, squatting, kneeling, and climbing throughout the day.Exposure to high noise levels and vibration; proper PPE is required.Work environment may include extreme temperatures and exposure to weather elements.Safety Requirements:Must work cooperatively as part of a team to meet production requirements.This position is safety-sensitive, requiring strict adherence to safety policies and procedures, including the use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).Why Join Us?Become part of a dedicated team that values safety, efficiency, and excellence in locomotive maintenance. Primary Job Responsibilities • Highly knowledgeable on heavy Industrial Electrical/Controls system design and construction. • Provide technical design leadership. • Exercises independent judgment with little to no direction from management. • Manage electrical and controls design for multiple projects. • Develop engineering drawings and documents independently. • Generate technical solutions to problems of unusual complexity. • Perform design calculations and use computer-aided design equipment. • Participate in project meetings and act as E/C team lead. • Work in teams on large multi-discipline projects. • Thrive in a fast-paced, schedule-driven atmosphere. • Perform field work and observe construction. • Monitor budgets and schedules. • Mentor junior engineers. • Light travel within the Kentucky/Tennessee/Illinois/Missouri region. • Develop proposals, material take-offs, and construction estimating. Requirements Qualifications • 4-7 years of experience required. • A 4-year BSEE degree with an ABET-accredited university is preferred. • Possess or be on track to obtain a Kentucky Professional Engineer license within 6 months. • Medium voltage experience is a plus. • Knowledge of Computer Aided Design software (i.e. AutoCAD). • Strong computer skills (i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, etc.). • Ability to work well with other engineers/designers. • Ability to work on job sites gathering information.
