Find your calling at Mercy! This is an entry-level position requiring basic knowledge of electricity. It is recommended that incumbents attend one or two years of trade school to prepare them for advancement opportunities. The Electrician I position will allow for the incumbent to learn electrical theory, work practices, safety procedures, and become familiar with the NEC. This position will also provide opportunity to learn proper use of basic electrical tools and equipment to maintain and troubleshoot electrical systems. Utilizes exceptional customer service and communication skills. The purpose of this position is to ensure a safe working environment and support an exceptional Environment of Care for Mercy. Position Details: Location Mercy Hospital Southeast 1701 Lacey Street Cape Girardeau, MO 63701 Hours/Schedule Full-Time (40-hrs per week) Days Minimum Required Qualifications Education: None Licensure: As required by regulatory agencies such as State and local Municipalities. Must maintain a valid drivers license Experience:1 or more years commercial experience working as a maintenance technician. Certification/Registration: None Other Skills and Knowledge: - Requires oral and written communication skills to communicate with customers and follow instructions. - Verbal ability required to read and understand technical manuals. - Numerical ability required to make calculations for testing, installation, measurement, estimation and repair of equipment. - Ability to prioritize work assignments, conceptualize and formulate finished product. - Form perception is required when measuring and installing parts and equipment. - Requires knowledge and use of various computer software such as Outlook and Mercy work order system. - Ability to manage time and materials efficiently. Completes work assignments in a high-quality manner and the lowest cost to Mercy. - Requires exceptional customer service skills and ability to achieve department goals. - Spatial ability required to understand forms and relationships when working from blueprints or specifications. - Incumbent must achieve favorable results on both oral and written competency exam prior to advancing to Electrician II. - Requires general manual dexterity, basic math knowledge, and mechanical aptitude. - Exposure to extreme temperatures, electric shock, and loud noise. Preferred Qualifications Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred. 2 or more years of training in a Technical or Vocational School. Licensure: None Experience: 1 or more years working as a maintenance electrician in a healthcare, educational, or industrial setting. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in designing, analyzing, and overseeing electrical system installation in commercial, institutional, or residential construction projects. You will collaborate with architects, mechanical engineers, and contractors to deliver code-compliant and energy-efficient electrical systems. About the Role Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Design and develop electrical systems for new building construction and renovation projects, including power distribution, lighting, fire alarm, data/communication, and emergency systems. • Perform load calculations, short-circuit analysis, and arc flash studies. • Work with designers to prepare construction documents, including drawings and specifications, using AutoCAD, Revit, or other BIM software. • Ensure designs meet applicable codes (NEC, NFPA, IBC), energy standards, and client requirements. • Conduct site visits and inspections to verify installation and resolve field issues. • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines and participate in project meetings. • Review submittals, respond to RFIs, and support construction administration activities. • Stamp and seal engineering documents as the Engineer of Record. • Stay up to date with new technologies, materials, and regulatory changes in the field. Required Skills • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from an accredited institution. • Professional Engineer (PE) license required; must be in good standing. • 5+ years of relevant experience in electrical design and engineering for building construction. • Deep understanding of the National Electrical Code (NEC), NFPA, ASHRAE, and local building codes. • Strong project management, problem-solving, and communication skills. • Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
