Position Summary - Contract to Hire We are actively seeking a Certified Electrical Journeyman to join our team in the Bay Area. A current and valid California Journeyman Certification is required—no exceptions—as this role involves hands-on work across commercial and industrial job sites. As a key member of our field team, you will be responsible for performing installations, maintenance, and repairs while upholding safety standards and ensuring full compliance with electrical codes and company quality expectations. The ideal candidate not only meets the state certification requirement but also demonstrates leadership on the jobsite, technical expertise, and a proactive approach to problem-solving. Key Responsibilities • Electrical Installations: Install, maintain, and repair electrical systems and equipment (power distribution, lighting, motors, controls) in commercial and industrial facilities, following project plans and specifications. • Wiring & Conduit: Run and secure electrical wiring and conduit (e.g. EMT, rigid conduit, MC cable, cable trays) for new construction and tenant improvement projects, ensuring neat workmanship and adherence to code requirements. • Troubleshooting & Repair: Diagnose malfunctioning electrical components such as transformers, motors, panels, and circuits. Identify the root cause of issues and perform corrective repairs or replacements to restore functionality. • Blueprints & Code Compliance: Read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and wiring diagrams to plan installations. Ensure all work complies with the National Electrical Code (NEC) and local building codes; make adjustments as needed to pass inspections. • Safety & Inspections: Conduct routine inspections of electrical systems and components to identify hazards or defects, and address any issues immediately. Strictly follow jobsite safety protocols (lockout/tagout procedures, PPE usage, etc.) and maintain a clean, hazard-free work area at all times. • Team Leadership: Work collaboratively with project managers, foremen, and other trades to meet project deadlines. Direct and mentor apprentices and electrician helpers by providing guidance on proper installation techniques and safety practices. Required Qualifications • Certification: Current and valid California Journeyman Electrician Certification – required by state law for anyone performing electrical work under a C-10 licensed contractor. (Must hold a California General Electrician certification card.) • Experience: Proven experience (approximately 4+ years) in commercial and/or industrial electrical construction and maintenance. Completion of a state-approved electrical apprenticeship program is highly preferred. • Technical Skills: Proficiency in reading and interpreting electrical blueprints, schematics, and technical diagrams. Strong knowledge of electrical theory and hands-on experience with commercial/industrial power systems (including three-phase circuits, transformers, motors, and control systems). • Code Knowledge: In-depth understanding of the NEC and California electrical codes; ability to apply code requirements to daily work and keep up-to-date with industry standards. • Safety Focus: Solid understanding of jobsite safety practices and OSHA regulations, with the ability to recognize and mitigate electrical hazards. Commitment to wearing PPE and working safely at all times. • Tools & Equipment: Experience with a wide range of electrical tools and testing equipment (e.g. conduit benders, multimeters, megohmmeters) required to install and troubleshoot electrical systems. • Physical Ability: Ability to perform the physical aspects of the job, including lifting up to 50 lbs, climbing ladders/scaffolds, working in confined spaces or at heights, and standing for long periods as needed. • Work Ethic: High standard of integrity, professionalism, and reliability on the job. Ability to work independently and as part of a team, follow instructions, and complete tasks efficiently. • Transportation: Have reliable transportation, and willingness to travel to various job sites around the Bay Area as needed.
