CARPENTER

Primary Purpose Construct, erect formwork and tie reinforcing steel necessary to form and pour concrete slabs, structural walls and decorative concrete. Typical Duties Studies plans and information required to erect formwork using prefab panels, plywood and form ties. Verifies, cuts and shapes forms to specific dimensions and patterns using lumber, nails, screws and fastening devices. Erects scaffolds, uses ladders and must abide by and be competent with OSHA rules and regulations that apply to general construction and heavy construction. Must possess ability to safely use and maintain power tools, including power saws, drills, abrasive saws, tapes and lifting devices. Must safely work outside around heavy equipment, such as excavators, dump trucks, skid steer loaders, water pumps and electric generators. Workers should be able to work within precise limits of accuracy and apply mathematics to solve layout and construction issues associated with concrete construction. Must be able to layout, set and tie multiple shapes and sizes of reinforcing steel. Workers should possess on the jobsite at all times basic carpentry tools, such as a hammer, tape measure, pencils, nail apron, saws, levels, squares and pliers. Physically, worker must be able to climb and balance on scaffolds and ladders, lift and carry objects weighing up to 100 pounds. Stoop, kneel and crawl in small or confined spaces at times. Needs to understand basic verbal and safety instruction in English, work in a team environment with positive and productive results. Be dependable, reliable and exceptional in work performance. Concrete Carpenter

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: • Read and interpret plans, schematics, and drawings and build based off them • Effectively and safely use the right trade tools for the projects assigned • Utilize tools and research required by trade to accomplish quality and timely work assignments • Continuously investigate methods and means to improve the cost effectiveness and quality of work within the trade • Provide guidance to unskilled labor to ensure safety and professional project completion • Analyze projects by working closely with the Foreman in identifying potential issues that may arise prior to quoting and at project take-off • Work closely with other trades where projects require simultaneous and overlapping trade work • Perform all work according to safety standards and promote safety on all job sites • Perform layout • Other duties as assigned Requirements: • Knowledgeable with grades and ADA requirements • Ability to bend, crouch and stand for long periods of time • Strong knowledge and experience interpreting drawings/project specifications • Experience at efficiently and safely operating trade tools and equipment • Strong communication and collaboration skills • Experience working effectively in a team environment • Associates in Construction Trade or equivalent trade certification from an accredited program preferred • 3+ years of hands-on trade experience in flatwork • Reliable transportation to be onsite based on project schedule Calhoun is an equal opportunity employer, dedicated to a policy of nondiscrimination in employment on any basis including race, creed, color, age, sex, religion or national origin or any other protected class.
