What You Will Do The Construction Superintendent team at the Los Alamos National Laboratory invites candidates to apply for a Construction Superintendent position to direct work activities while working to achieve Lab missions. The Construction Superintendent will be responsible for directing the sequence of work for multi-discipline, bargaining unit craft workers, operating within assigned areas. Will ensure that facility modification continuously adheres to engineering designs, engineering document control, specifications, quality standards, schedules, material procurement and budgets. This position will be filled at either the Superintendent 2/Superintendent 3 level, depending on the skills of the selected candidate. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if the candidate is hired at the higher level. Construction Superintendent 2: $94,500 - $154,600 The Construction Superintendent 2 will work closely with System Engineers, Construction Managers, Superintendent Leads, and Project Managers. Will work independently but will be under the oversight of a Construction Manager 3 or 4 or Superintendent 3 or 4. Project size is typically < $500k. Will support the investigation of abnormal events, incidents, and/or accidents to identify the root cause and assist in implementing appropriate corrective actions. Establish, coordinate, and implement maintenance schedules that encompass resources, material, and equipment requirements/availability. Schedule core craft by coordinating with the schedulers ahead of time. Track costs to meet formal estimated jobs, report changes, and maintain appropriated budgets. May be required to work a flexible schedule i.e. weekends, or after hours. Construction Superintendent 3: $104,100 - $172,200 In addition to what was outlined at the lower level, the Construction Superintendent 3 may serve as a Control Account Manager (CAM) responsible for planning, budgeting, managing and controlling costs and schedule performance for a project or sub-project and serve as a point of contact for project controls, including account scope, schedule, budget, and technical performance. Ensure work packages realistically represent the duration and budget necessary to perform work and perform variance analysis reviews, determine cause and effect of schedule or cost variance and define achievable corrective action plans. May be required to present project management performance plans, status updates, trends or issues to federal sponsors. May be required to work a flexible schedule i.e. weekends, or after hours. Additional Job Requirements for Superintendent 3: In addition to the requirements outlined above, qualification at the higher level requires: • Advanced knowledge of all phases and complexity levels of construction projects, upgrades, renovations and D&D. • Lead constructability reviews of the design process and the potential impacts to construction cost and schedule. • Extensive knowledge and experience with facility maintenance and/or construction management including systems engineering design and maintenance, safety/authorization basis, configuration management programs, work control and facility control systems. • Extensive knowledge and understanding of collective bargaining agreements related to all trades. • Extensive understanding of work hazards, safety practices, operating configuration, and lock-out/tag-out policies and procedures. Education/Experience at lower level: Position requires a bachelor's degree in a related field; or, an equivalent combination of education and experience related to the position.
