The ideal candidate will have a high school diploma or general education degree, experience in public works operations, and knowledge of water distribution systems and sanitary sewer collection systems. • Primary Responsibilities: • Perform heavy manual labor and equipment operation including loaders, backhoes, sewer rodders, sewer jet, and other equipment associated with the repair, maintenance, and installation of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. • Install, maintain, and repair water distribution mains, laterals, valves, valve boxes, meter pits, meters, hydrants, and pressure reducing valves. Test water quality, water flow rates, and pressure. Locate water lines for excavation. • Excavate, install, inspect, flush, clean, and repair wastewater mains, lines, and laterals. Make taps for sanitary sewer services and locate sewer mains for excavation contractors. Repair, test, and maintain sewer lift stations and residential grinder pump systems. • Operate equipment including loaders, backhoes, sewer rodders, sewer jet, and other equipment for equipment associated with the repair, maintenance, and installation of water distribution and wastewater collection systems. • Operate and maintain sewer collection system equipment such as the Vactor and camera truck as assigned. Analyze the information and compile reports using associated computer software. • Input data on computer and operate SCADA system. Record pertinent data in log book, maintenance records, bench sheets, etc. • Train lower level employees and/or seasonal workers and assist other City departments and other personnel in performing their tasks within the department. • Actively participate in on-call rotation and response to after-hours emergencies calls. Key Skills: Mandatory Qualifications: • High school diploma or general education degree (GED). • Experience performing maintenance, public works operations, and construction work in the assigned area of responsibility. • Working knowledge of a water distribution system, sanitary sewer collection system, and maintenance equipment including sewer jet operation. • Ability to read and interpret basic maps and blueprints. • Knowledge of SCADA operations and standard construction practices relating to water systems and waste water collection preferred. Preferred Requirements: • Current Colorado Class A or B Commercial Driver's license with Tanker and Airbrake endorsements preferred; must be able to obtain within 90 days of start date; must have acceptable driving record. • Traffic control Flagger certification. • Entry - Ability to obtain OCPO Level 1 certification in area of primary responsibility within two (2) years. • Mid - OCPO Level 1 Water Distribution and Wastewater Collection • Senior - OCPO Level 2 in area of primary responsibility
