Welder Fabricator

DEPARTMENT: Welding SUMMARY: Searching for a welder with top level skills in fitting and welding structural applications. A top level welder is capable of performing a variety of welding functions. The individual should be familiar with and capable of using various types of welding equipment. This position will involve performing a variety of welding/fabrication functions. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: • Reads and interprets blueprints and machine drawings to determine specific welding requirements and proper fit up • Connects cables from welding unit to obtain amperage, voltage, slope, and pulse, as specified by engineer. • Manually guides electrode or gun along weld line, maintaining length of arc and speed of movement to form specified depth of fusion and bead, as judged from color of metal, sound of weld, and size of molten puddle. • Welds in flat, horizontal, vertical or overhead positions. • Examines weld for bead size and other specifications. • Repairs broken or cracked parts and fills holes. • Positions and clamps workpieces together or assembles them in jig or fixtures. • Selects torch, torch tip, filler ford and flux, according to welding chart specifications or type and thickness of material. • Tacks assemblies together. • Chips off excess weld, slag, and spatter. • Cleans or de-greases parts. • Performs all necessary maintenance and repair on all equipment used in welding. • Be able to move parts in and move finished product out of welding area. EDUCATION (OR EQUIVALENT EXPERIENCE): Associate’s degree (A.A.) or equivalent from two year college or technical school; or six months to one year related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. LICENSES OR CERTIFICATIONS: Forklift training certificate or the ability to receive it. SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED: • Ability to read and interpret documents furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, quality manuals and procedure manuals. • Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations. • Be able to read and interpret blueprints. • Must be able to read a tape measure. • Ability to perform simple shop math, convert decimals to fractional equivalents. • Ability to use weld fillet gauges to ensure proper weld size and interpret tolerances. • Must be able to identify and measure material. Industrial Mechanic/Welder

• Reviews the job, understand scope, and prepares pre-task plans to perform work in a safe manner and in accordance with Conduct of Maintenance • Identify and correct/take proper actions from any emerging issues or discoveries • Obtains the corresponding work permits and communicates effectively with operations (24/7 Team) or other impacted work groups to ensure effective hand-offs. • Perform quality and timely maintenance work • Keep work areas clean and orderly • Identify hazards and mitigate them appropriately • Perform and complete root cause analysis (RCA's) on most failures to correct and prevent reoccurrence • Provide feedback on work plans • Follow safe work procedures or adjust working conditions • Work with Maint Planner to make sure that parts are available when and as needed • Communicate to Maint Planner if resources from outside the Unit Team or company are needed to safely and reliably performer the scope of work. • Able to be trained in house and by a 3rd party to perform specific job duties (building scaffolding, excavations, basic rigging). Decision Authorities • Determination of additional resources that may be needed • Stop unsafe acts / activities • Escalate issues that cannot be solved and other actions are needed. • Determines whether the job scope is complete (tools, procedures, equipment availability, etc.) or contains deficiencies which must be corrected. • Decides whether is safe to execute work - Accepts or rejects operations hand-off for work and receives work permits. • Installs, services, and repairs process equipment components associated with valves, pumps, piping systems, filtration systems, tanks/vessels, pressure relief devices, pumps consistent with chemical industry. Uses hand and power tools to disassemble, repair, and reassemble system components. • Conduct inspection of mechanical and other equipment typical of a chemical facility. • Coordinate with the production and other departments for feedback on the functionality of machinery. • Basic electrical skills. • Familiar with boiler/utilities operations; demonstrated mechanical aptitude. • Must have 3 years welding experience and pass a weld test. • * Execute maintenance tasks that falls outside of the capabilities of the operations team and are time sensitive in impact or consequence. • Ensure that maintenance is executed safely, efficiently and work quality is exceptionalUnderstands basic maintenance work processes and standard maintenance practices
