Construction Laborers - Wilson

Fred Smith Company is currently seeking to fill a Construction Laborer position for our Wilson location. We are a self-perform heavy civil contractor working in North Carolina. Pay will be commensurate with experience; all employees are eligible after 90 days for benefits such as health, dental and vision insurance and paid time off. The laborer will perform various general construction tasks related to grading and road building activities utilizing small tools. This is an entry-level position and prior construction experience is not required. Preference will be given to those who have worked in an outdoor environment. Applicants must have reliable transportation and will be required to pass a pre-employment drug screen. Applicants must be authorized to work in the USA. Painter I

Reports To: Painter Supervisor Terms of Employment: Permanent, 12 Month Position Nature of Work Under general supervision, performs semi-skilled painting tasks in the removal of existing paint, preparation of surfaces to be painted, and the application of a variety of surface materials with either brush or roller. Work involves performing potentially hazardous tasks such as erecting scaffolds and ladders. Work also involves mixing and matching paints and stains by using proper pigments, base and thinner. Reports to the Painter Supervisor. Qualifications and Licensure • High School Diploma or equivalent • Experience in painting, preferred Duties and Responsibilities • Prepares surfaces to be painted by use of power cleaning equipment, chemicals, scrapers, sandpaper, sanding machines and any other methods that become the state of the art. • Applies paints, stains, sealers, varnishes, fillers, and other coating materials to interior and exterior of buildings and facilities or equipment owned by the school system; erects, moves, and works from scaffolding and ladders; attends to the need for safety precautions. • Assists in mixing and matching paints and stains by using proper pigments, base and thinner; matches paints and stains by use of charts and color chips. • Patches plaster and sheetrock by using fillers, tape, spackling compound, patching plasters or any other products that become the state of the art. • Repairs drywall and moves or makes alterations to walls. • Cleans and maintains equipment, tools and supplies. • Requests, maintains and is responsible for the inventory and accountability of material, tools, repair parts and equipment assigned and that is issued for use. • Inventories all tools and equipment quarterly and submit results to the supervisor. • Ensures assigned automotive equipment is operated and maintained as outlined in applicable district’s procedures. • Performs all other duties as assigned by the supervisor. Physical Requirements (if applicable) • Must be physically able to operate a variety of machinery and equipment including power cleaning equipment, scrapers, sanding machines, paint brushes, rollers, etc. • Must be physically able to operate a motor vehicle (i.e., tractors, bobcats). • Must be able to exert up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. • Requires the ability to climb and maneuver on ladders, scaffolding, and/or in tight spaces. Special Requirements (if applicable) • Must have a general working knowledge of the department's work order system and the document flow associated with that system. • Requires the ability to speak and/or signal people to convey or exchange information. Includes receiving instructions, assignments or directions from superiors. • Requires the ability to read a variety of correspondence, work orders, etc. • Requires the ability to prepare correspondence, logs, timesheets, etc. • Requires the ability to speak to people with poise, voice control and confidence. • Requires the ability to record and deliver information, to explain procedures, to follow oral and written instructions. • Must be able to communicate effectively and efficiently in standard English and building trades’ terminology.
