Machinist I - 1st Shift

Position Summary Setup and operate Computer Numerically Controlled (CNC) lathes and/or mills. Primarily responsible for setting up and operating equipment with some program editing and offsetting on a variety of parts. Responsible for meeting dimensional requirements. Shifts: 5:00am-3:00pm or 6:00am-4:30pm (4 day's work week, 10 hours per day Monday-Thursday) Benefits: Healthcare, Vision, Dental, 401K Match, Quarterly Bonuses, PTO, Company Holidays Duties • Read blueprints and routers to meet production and quality requirements. • Set up and operate swiss type CNC lathe or CNC milling center for a variety of jobs based on specific job requirements. May assist lower-level operators. • Performing limited editing and offsetting of programs. • Utilize standard measuring devices such as caliper and micrometer to meet quality requirements while maintaining productivity levels during the manufacturing process. • Operators within and adheres to general plant rules and policies governing workplace Education Degree • Vocational/Technical Required Experience • High school education or equivalent. • CNC machining experience of 3-5 years or technical degree. • Ability to read and understand blueprints, process routers and Standard Operating Procedures. • Performance of operations which require finite motor skills. • Posture is primarily standing with limited sitting. Limited bending or twisting required. • Movement of product weighing up to fifty pounds from one workstation to another. • Visual acuity adequate to detect subtle visual product non-conformities. Job Type Full-time Description Who We Are: We have operations in Saint Louis, Missouri, Huntington Beach, California, and Milford, Connecticut, serving local, national and international customers, both military and commercial. The company supplies platform controls, aircraft components, liquid oxygen equipment, and emergency breathing equipment to its customers. Summary of Job: We are currently looking for a CNC Machinist. This role includes programming, editing, and performing complex set ups and operate various metal working equipment to produce precision machined components to print as instructed by lead or supervision. Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned. • Expertly use most hand, manual, and automatic machinery, fixturing and precision measuring equipment to complete departmental assignments. • Maintain knowledge of additional pieces of equipment • Program machine, fixturing, material, and paperwork preparation such as sharpening, locating, verifying, programming, editing, etc. • Set up and proof CNC machines for runs to achieve a first piece quality product • Set-up Times and Run Times; monitor for accuracy and feedback necessary changes to programmer/lead/supervisor. • Monitor condition of job specific tooling or holding fixtures, make authorized changes. • Setup machines for Machine Operator I, II, and/or III. • Keep waste low, minimize scrap, use labor efficiently, and account for all parts on jobs. • Operate machinery above company standards for both time and quality • Suggest and implement improvements to machining processes. • Improve on product through-put via additional operations such as multiple machine operation, deburring, cleaning, etc. whenever possible. • Keep machinery and work area in a clean, safe, maintained, and organized. • Assist in other areas in order to meet the production needs of Essex and its customers. • Comply with all PPE and machine guarding as necessary with each job. Key Position Responsibilities: • Program mills and lathes by entering instructions, including zero and reference points; setting tool registers, offsets, compensation, and conditional switches; calculating requirements, including basic math, geometry, and trigonometry; proving part program. • Set up mills and lathes by installing and adjusting three-and four-jaw chucks, tools, attachments, collets, bushings, cams, gears, stops, and stock pushers; indicating vices; tramming heads. • Measure and evaluate parts using precision measuring devices including calipers, micrometers, and gauges. • Load feed mechanism by lifting stock into position. • Verify settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample workpieces, adhering to international standards. • Read and follow blueprints, sketches, diagrams. • Maintain specifications by observing drilling, grooving, and cutting, including turning, facing, knurling, and thread chasing operations; taking measurements; detecting malfunctions; troubleshooting processes; adjusting and reprogramming controls; sharpening and replacing worn tools; adhering to quality assurance procedures and processes. • Maintain equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements; following manufacturer's instructions; troubleshooting malfunctions; calling for repairs. • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with company procedures, rules, and regulations. • Demonstrated experience with G-Code programming; MasterCam a plus. Key Position Requirements: • Experience with Haas, Okuma and/or Mazak preferred. • Minimum of 2-3 years of experience programming, set-up and operating CNC Mills and/or CNC Lathes. • Must be able to stand up to 8 hours a day, lift. • Must have good attendance. • Must have consistent and reliable means of transportation. • Manufacturing using Lean methodology experience preferred. Physical/visual activities or demands that are commonly associated with the performance of the functions of this job include standing, lifting 40 pounds, bending, pushing, and walking.
