They must have a strong understanding of the machines they work with. Machine Operators may work with mechanical or computer operated equipment. Manual Machinist - Tool and Die

SUMMARY: A Manual Machinist operates machine tools such as lathes mills and grinders to produce precision metal parts without computer numerical control (CNC). The Manual Machinist will manually operate machine tools to fabricate and manufacture machine parts. This job description does not describe all activities duties responsibilities or physical demands that are required of the employee for this job. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES: • Perform setup adjustment and operation of a variety of manual machines within the machine shop. • Operate fabrication machinery to produce parts used in manufacturing processes. • Select appropriate cutting tools attachments accessories and materials to be used on machines. • Use micrometers calipers gauges and other measuring tools to check tolerances and quality of parts produced. • Examine and measure completed units and parts to identify any defects and ensure units conform with predetermined specifications; adjust machine controls to resolve production errors. • Maintain accurate records in the companys system regarding time to complete the job completed quantity and s quantity. • Read and understand layouts job travelers and blueprints for the parts being run including geometric tolerancing. • Perform necessary side operations during machine cycle time as required. • Follow setup procedures and recommend improvements. • Inspect machinery for any needed repairs; perform minor repairs within expertise. • Maintain cleanliness and safety of the work area. • Comply with applicable safety standards and regulations. • Perform other related duties as assigned. EDUCATION WORK EXPERIENCE AND PROFICIENCIES: • Ability to operate various types of machine tools to perform progressive machining. • Ability to read blueprints and plans. • Excellent mechanical skills. • Excellent time management skills. • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Vocational/technical school training and apprenticeship in Machining Technology preferred. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: • Prolonged periods of standing and bending required. • Must be able to lift 35 pounds at a time.
