Position: Machinist Type: Full-Time Schedule: Monday–Thursday, 6:00 AM–4:30 PM (occasional overtime on Fridays) Compensation: Starting at $18.50/hour + Full Benefits Package Location: Jamestown, ND Job Summary: A Machinist sets up and operates conventional, special-purpose machines to fabricate metallic and nonmetallic parts. Duties/Responsibilities: • Studies blueprints, sketches, drawings, manuals, specifications, or sample part to determine dimensions and tolerances of finished workpiece, sequence of operations, and setup requirements. • Measures, marks, and scribes dimensions and reference points on material or workpiece as guides for subsequent machining. • Selects, aligns, and secures holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials on machines such as mills, lathes, jig borers, grinders, and shapers. • Calculates and sets controls to regulate machining factors such as speed, feed, coolant flow, and depth and angle of cut, or enters commands to retrieve, input, or edit computerized machine control media. • Starts and observes machine operation to detect malfunctions or out-of-tolerance machining and adjusts machine controls or control media as required. • Verifies conformance of finished workpiece to specifications. • Sets up and operates machine on trial run to verify accuracy of machine settings or programmed control data. • Confers with engineers, production personnel, programmers, or others to resolve machining or assembly problems. • Operates pneumatic, electric, or manual overhead chain hoists to properly move heavy parts into position for assembly. • Operates forklift to move machine parts to other locations of the production operation. • Maintains a safe and clean working environment. • Performs other duties as assigned. Required Skills/Abilities: • Dependable, motivated and self-starter. • Must be able to follow methods and procedures. • Ability to read and understand blueprints and shop drawings. • Detail-oriented and consistent. • Works well as a productive member of a team. • Basic ability in mathematics, reading, or writing. • Must have the ability to work rapidly and under pressure for extended periods of time in order to meet build requirements. Education/Experience: • High school diploma or equivalent preferred. • Knowledge of manufacturing materials, processes, and specifications preferred. • Mechanical experience is preferred. Physical Requirements: • Must have manual dexterity and stability as required for precision work. • Must be able to see details at close range. • Must be able to lift 20 to 50 pounds occasionally, 10 to 30 pounds frequently and up to 10 pounds constantly to move objects. • Must be able to navigate facilities and machinery by climbing, balancing, bending, lifting, walking, stooping, and carrying materials. • Wear and work in personnel protective equipment. Work Environment: • Exposure to moving mechanical parts. • Noise level is moderate to loud. • Frequently exposed to airborne particles. • Exposure to heat/humidity during summer months. Date Posted: 2025-03-17 Country: United States of America Location: HND01: Interiors (Cargo) - Jamestown 2604 Highway 20 North, Jamestown, ND, 58401 USA Position Role Type: Onsite Position Overview: • Entry level Machinists position with no experience. • Works under direct supervision of assigned mentor. • Perform setups and machine parts with direct supervision. • Perform inspection of work produced with direct supervision. • Works with co-workers to safely and efficiently maintain operations and production • Engage in Continuous Improvement activities. • Enrollment in the Precision Machining Technology associate degree program at North Dakota State College of Science, Wahpeton, ND. • Candidate will split their time between Collins Aerospace in Jamestown, and North Dakota State College of Science (“NDSCS”) in Wahpeton, ND. The expectation is that the candidate work at Collins Aerospace during fall/spring breaks, winter holidays and summers while pursuing their degree. Primary Responsibilities: • Must adhere to all EH & S regulations and policies as well as attend related training courses. • Follow the EH & S roles and responsibilities in accordance with the Cargo Policy MP5322. • Develop ability to interpret drawings, sketches and blueprints and be ability to interpret Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing. • Sets up and operates machine shop equipment, e.g., mills, lathes, drill presses, etc., to cut material and drill holes according to specifications. • Inspects and measures completed projects with micrometers, calipers, Vernier’s, etc., to ensure conformance to specifications. • Ability to use Coordinate Measuring Machines.
