CNC Milling Process Technician

Job Title: CNC Milling Process Technician Department: Machining FLSA Status: Non-Exempt Reports To: Production Manager Job Summary: (Opportunity located in the NE area of SD - relocation assistance available) We are seeking an experienced CNC Milling Process Technician to join our precision metals CNC shop. This role requires expertise in CNC horizontal and vertical milling operations, including blueprint interpretation, tooling and fixturing selection, cycle time estimation, and the programming/setup of new parts. The ideal candidate will have a strong technical background, attention to detail, and a problem-solving mindset to ensure high-quality production. Key Responsibilities: · Quote, program, and set up new parts and processes in CNC vertical and horizontal milling machines. · Read and interpret blueprints, engineering drawings, and technical specifications to ensure accurate machining. · Accurately determine cycle times, fixturing, and tooling requirements based on print specifications. · Work with vendors to source tooling and optimize machining processes. · Layout and set up CNC machines for efficient operation. · Program CNC machines using CAM software and manually edit G-code as needed. · Perform first-piece inspections and adjust setups to ensure precision and quality standards. · Inspect parts throughout the machining process, from setup through first-piece approval. · Troubleshoot machining issues and optimize processes for efficiency and accuracy. · Maintain a clean and organized work area, following all safety and quality procedures. · Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve machining processes and workflow. · Document setup instructions and best practices for repeatability and process improvement. Qualifications & Requirements: · Minimum 3+ years of CNC horizontal/vertical milling experience in a precision machining environment. · Strong ability to read and interpret blueprints, GD&T, and machining specifications. · Experience quoting new parts, programming, and determining cycle times, tooling, and fixturing requirements. · Ability to work with vendors to procure tooling and improve machining efficiency. · Proficiency in CNC programming and setup of new parts. · Familiarity with CAM software and G-code editing. · Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills. · Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment. · High attention to detail and commitment to quality. Preferred Qualifications: · Experience with multi-axis machining. · Knowledge of lean manufacturing principles and process optimization. · Prior experience working in an ISO-certified environment. CNC Programmer

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES • Analyze blueprints and engineering drawings to determine dimensions of parts and configuration or patterns and cuts for proper machining and fabrication of parts including: • Calculate radii of simple and complex irregular curves using computer assist • Create simple and complex patterns and parts using CAD/CAM program • Establish optimum path and maximum use of materials and tooling including location of tool set point, starting point and cutter change points • Prepare programs, set-up directions and instruction for CNC operators (including step-by-step directions for movement of machine cutter, change-point in three dimensional coordinates and data, machine cutting parameters, laser power, cutting gas types and pressure settings) • Verify and edit code generation for accuracy and efficiency; maintain and update code files • For some machines, transform two-dimensional drawings into three-dimensional objects for machining • For some machines, transform three-dimensional objects into flat pattern parts for fabrication • Pending plant location, operate burn table or laser table as needed • Act, live, and behave by TCF Core Values • Other duties as assigned QUALIFICATIONS • High School Diploma or equivalent; vocational training preferred • 2+ years recent numeric control operations and programming experience • Ability to determine reference points, machine cutting paths and hole locations and compute angular and linear dimensions, radii and curvatures • Ability to perform and prioritize multiple projects simultaneously • Proficient in reading and interpreting 3D and 2D models • Practical experience with conventional machining equipment • CAD/CAM program experience preferred PHYSICAL DEMANDS/WORKING CONDITIONS: • Standard office environment • Ability to occasionally lift up to 20 pounds • Ability to occasionally climb, balance, stoop, kneel, reach Ability to work extended hours sitting at a computer As a CNC Programmer you will be offered pay of $21.00-25.00/hour dependent on experience.
