Fabric Cutting Machine Operator

WHO WE ARE: At Wing Inflatables we have dedicated ourselves over the past 30 years to giving rescue workers, the coast guard, Navy SEALs, river rafting guides, and kayakers, the confidence to stay safe while performing with lightweight speed and agility on the water. POSITION PURPOSE: Sets up and operates computer-operated cutting machine to cut rolls of material such as 40 oz urethane and other weights of coated materials into pattern pieces. Appropriately marks cut pieces to aid in assembly operations. Removes cut and marked pieces from table, bundles them and arranges them on material-handling carts. Is responsible for quality of material in all cut pieces. ORGANIZATION FIT This position reports to the Production Manager with day-to-day guidance and interaction with the Welding Supervisor. This position may also interact in the plant with the Manufacturing, Production Control, and Materials/Purchasing departments. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS • Reads work order to determine product to be cut. Assures that cut file is correct and matches the work order for the job. • Completes necessary quality checks of fabrics, including adhesion, weight, gauge and cosmetics. • Operates computer-cutter software, PatternSmith, that drives CNC vacuum cutting machine and table. • Selects correct material and spreads material across cutting table. Records material used by vendor, style, color, lot number, roll number and yardage. • Starts machine and verifies size and shape of pattern pieces and notes accuracy of knife cut and computer drawn markings. • Observes operation of machine to detect malfunctions such as jamming, wrinkling, or tearing of material. • Stops machine to make required adjustments. • Makes re-cuts as necessary. Die cuts parts as required. • Removes cut parts and bundles them to a cart. Labels cart with appropriate work order information. OTHER FUNCTIONS • Operate forklift as needed to move and unload palates of fabric rolls. Must be able to become certified to drive the forklift and have ability to follow safety protocol. • Perform all safety checks and use PPE as required SPECIAL ASSIGNMENTS OR WORKING CONDITIONS • The position works in a safety-conscious production environment • Frequent standing, walking, using hands to handle materials, and occasionally lifting up to 90 lbs. in order to retrieve, move and work with materials in the plant Benefits: • 401(k) • 401(k) matching • Dental insurance • Vision insurance • Employee assistance program • Employee discount • Health insurance • Health savings account • Paid time off • Referral program • Employer Sponsored Life Insurance WORK EXPERIENCE Required • Must be able to read computer files both in Excel and PatternSmith, Plotter-Pilot. • Demonstrated knowledge of how product goes together so that correct side of material is marked • Proficiency working on computers and with various software; ability to learn new programs and digital operations quickly • Ability to work semi-independently and make quality decisions related to final product • Demonstrated ability to use written and oral instructions, sketches, photos and math skills necessary to perform the job • Ability to apply reasoning and common sense to carry out detailed instructions and deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations • Consistently arrives to work on time; demonstrates willingness to work overtime when necessary Desired • 1-2 years of relevant work experience using CNC machinery • Prior experience in manufacturing plant as a finisher or technician EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING Required • High School Diploma or equivalent Desired • 1-3 months of equivalent knowledge/experience INTERPERSONAL SKILLS Required • Effective and professional relationships with co-workers within immediate work group, outside the immediate department. • Effective and productive communications skills; speaks well, communicates ideas clearly.
