This role ensures a safe, comfortable, and energy-efficient environment for students, faculty, and staff. The technician collaborates with the facilities team to prioritize tasks, address urgent repairs, and support long-term sustainability goals This position requires on-call availability on a rotating schedule for emergency response and may involve the operation of heavy equipment. Principal Responsibilities and Results, KSA's Essential Functions: – this position is non-exempt, i.e., is eligible for compensatory or overtime pay provisions of the FLSA. Ensures the functionality and safety of the Laramie County and Albany County campus facilities by overseeing the maintenance, repair, and inspection of HVAC and mechanical systems to support uninterrupted campus operations. Routine Inspections and Repairs • Performs scheduled inspections, filter changeouts, maintenance, and repairs on all HVAC systems, including roof top units, boilers, chillers, pumps, natural gas lines. • Maintains and repairs hydronic heating and cooling systems, ensuring efficient operation of these systems across campus facilities. • Services and maintains commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems as they relate to HVAC, working with HVAC and automation specialists as necessary. • Safely operate torches as required for tasks such as brazing and soldering, and other HVAC installations or repairs. Isolate all sources of energy except for testing. Residence Halls and Kitchen • Inspects, installs, services, cleans, and maintains HVAC systems including kitchen equipment, refrigeration, domestic boilers, cooking equipment. • Oversees and performs duct and HVAC cleaning to ensure safe and effective conditioned air in all buildings, residence halls and kitchen areas. On-Call Emergency Response • Participates in an on-call rotation to respond to HVAC and other emergencies, providing prompt and effective solutions to minimize disruption and ensure safety. • Develops and implements emergency response plans for HVAC incidents, coordinating with other Plant staff as needed. • Assists with snow removal in designated area as needed. Maintains the reliability and efficiency of HVAC systems by implementing preventative maintenance schedules and documenting all inspections and repairs to ensure compliance and support long-term operational stability. Periodic Inspections • Conducts regular inspections, cleaning, and preventative maintenance of all HVAC and mechanical systems, following established schedules and best practices. • Identifies potential issues and addresses them proactively to prevent equipment failure or safety hazards. Recordkeeping and Compliance • Maintains accurate records of all inspections, repairs, and maintenance activities for compliance and reporting purposes. • Orders and maintains inventory/schedule for parts, services, equipment and tools. • Ensures adherence to local, state, and federal regulations for HVAC, refrigeration, glycol containing mechanical systems, coordinating with inspectors as necessary. Other tasks may be assigned based on contemporary institutional needs.
