HVAC Service Technician - Commercial

The ideal candidate is technically proficient, detail-oriented, and committed to providing top-tier service to clients while maintaining a collaborative and efficient work environment. This position works closely with the Service Manager, Dispatcher, and other Service Technicians to ensure seamless operations. Key Responsibilities: Technical Duties: • Efficiently diagnose and repair complex HVAC system issues. • Perform repairs and maintenance on systems such as: • Split Systems • Package Units • Rooftops • Dedicated Outdoor Air Systems (DOAS) • Variable Air Volume (VAV) and Parallel Fan-Powered Units (PIU) • Exhaust Fans and HVAC Controls • Conduct regular maintenance and inspections to prevent system downtime. • Interpret and apply knowledge of electrical wiring, circuitry, and control systems. • Leverage analytical skills to troubleshoot and resolve system inefficiencies. Soft Skills: • Communicate technical details clearly to clients in layman's terms. • Handle multiple service calls and tasks effectively and meeting deadlines. • Collaborate with vendors and suppliers for parts procurement and warranty claims. • Utilize HVAC software and mobile applications for diagnostics, reporting, and workflow. • Stay up-to-date on industry developments through continuous learning. Qualifications and Experience: • Minimum 5 years of experience in commercial HVAC service. • Familiarity with Daikin VRV systems or similar is preferred. Certifications and Education: • EPA Section 608 Certification: Universal preferred (minimum Type I & II required). • Certification in handling and disposing of refrigerants (EPA-compliant). • OSHA safety training or equivalent knowledge of safety protocols (can train). • Associate degree or technical diploma in HVAC technology (preferred). • Additional certifications such as HVAC Excellence are a plus. • Must have a valid driver’s license and a clean Motor Vehicle Record (MVR). Physical Requirements: • Must be able to carry up to 50lbs alone, crawl, crouch, bend, twist at the waist, work with arms overhead, climb ladders up to 28 feet (with harness), work in outdoor temperatures. • Available to respond to weekend overtime calls is a plus. Annual Salary: $58,305.00 - $62,400.00 Hourly: $29.90 - $32.00 Department: General Government, Maintenance & Trades Division: HVAC FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Description: $3,000 BONUS $1,500 ON FIRST PAY CHECK $1,500 AFTER 120-DAYS WORKED In this role, you will perform HVAC installation and maintenance at City-owned facilities. Examples of Duties: • Performs HVAC installation, preventative maintenance and repairs on various types of equipment including split systems, package units, rooftop units, bay heaters, mini splits, etc. • Installs, maintains and repairs ice machines. • Operates specialized equipment and tools related to the trade discipline. • May lead the work of maintenance crews at the worksite, ensuring that the work is performed safely and efficiently. • Receives work orders, prioritizes and distributes them according to division procedures. • Estimates project materials from blueprints, and purchases necessary supplies. • Maintains records of all work performed. • Works extended hours, as necessary, during shutdowns of equipment and/or buildings. • Performs other duties as assigned. Basic Qualifications: • High School diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) and 4 years of related experience and/or training, or equivalent combination of education and experience. • Valid driver’s license. • Certified Master Tradesman in specific trade discipline. • Ability to use a smartphone, tablet, and/ or computer for work order management and unit diagnostics. • May also require certification in one or more of the following within 6 months of hire: • Confined Space Training • Respiratory Training • Swimming Pool / Spa Certification Other Necessary Requirements: • May require evenings, weekends, and holidays as scheduled. • In the event of major storms or other emergency situations, this position may be subject to 24-hour shifts or any other emergency schedule that is necessary to meet the City’s needs.
