Electrical Apprentice

Electrical Apprentices assist Electricians in the performance of electrical tasks such as pulling cable, installing devices, repairing electrical equipment, and reading blueprints. This position requires the apprentice to enroll in a 4-year Department of Labor (DOL) Registered Apprenticeship Program. Some travel will be required. Pay is dependent on experience. Essential Duties And Responsibilities Works under the direct supervision of a Journeyman Electrician and must be able to demonstrate safe work habits and proper care of tools and equipment. Assists with materials handling, installation of materials, devices and equipment Specific Tasks Include • Identify and eliminate hazardous conditions at the job site • Maintain the job site in a safe, neat and orderly condition • Handle and stage materials, equipment and tools • Assist with layout, wire pulls and installation • May be required to operate heavy equipment • Assist with cable tray installations, device installations, and lighting connections • Receive On-the-job learning (OJL) as part of the apprenticeship program • Attend class & make satisfactory progress with apprenticeship program completion • Safely operate hand and power tools • Possess the ability to read and interpret instructions, maps, & manuals • Positive safety attitude and personal integrity • Legally operate company vehicles and equipment Working Conditions • Job requires working in all elements (rain, snow, heat, etc.) • Must keep work tools with them at all times (work belt, bag, etc.) • Use all types of ladders including step ladders up to 14’feet, “A” Frame and all size extension ladders and relocate a 12’ ladder by one’s self • Perform work at various heights, up to 90’ from ladders, scaffolds, aerial lifts, and cat walks and be able to work in restricted areas • Wear protective personal equipment (PPE) About Us MetroPower (www.metropower.com) serves the electrical construction & service needs of residential, industrial, institutional, and commercial communities throughout the United States. Identifies and rectifies unsafe conditions for themselves and others. • Receives instructions, hydraulic diagrams, blueprints, specifications, and software necessary to perform scheduled, emergency, or routine repairs, calibrations, and preventive maintenance. • Interprets drawings, sketches, software, plans and determines best work procedures, tools, equipment needed to troubleshoot and repair problems. • Uses AB and Siemens PLC software to troubleshoot and repair down equipment in a timely manner. • Knowledgeable in the install and troubleshooting of all types and sizes of AC and DC motors, generators, transformers, circuit breakers, rectifiers, electronic controls, control panels, starters, switches, lighting equipment, electronic scales, power distribution, communication systems, inverters and motor drives, conduit, and fittings, soldering and replacing parts. • Safely operates common industrial electrician equipment including but not limited to conduit bender, drill press, hydraulic press, bench grinder, pipe threading machine, man lift, forklift, overhead crane, etc. • Operates electronic and electrical test equipment. (Megohmmeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, amp meter, laptop, etc.) • Using Maximo software, logs all job tasks, work assignments, and corrective actions daily. • Performs other miscellaneous duties and tasks as assigned. • Must be able to work rotating schedules, which may include nights and weekends, and work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
