Electrician II

Under the leadership and guidance of the Director of Logistics. This is a highly skilled position as a professional electrician. Strong working knowledge and experience in all activities of electrical and telecommunications in construction, maintenance and repair of electrical power, lighting, communication systems, lift stations, wastewater treatment plants, of City facilities and equipment, with a general knowledge of HVAC systems and operations. Uses test equipment, such as a voltmeter and an ohmmeter. This is an emergency essential position that requires performance of emergency duties and actions to prepare, repair, and recover the City before, during, and after any adverse storm events (hurricane, tornado, tropical storm, ice storm, etc.) or other conditions (natural or manmade). Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Plans wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures—such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, controllers, breaker boxes, and fuse boxes—in compliance with blueprints, schematic drawings, and sketches. • Responsible for the wiring and installation of equipment and fixtures, such as motors, generators, switches, circuit breakers, controllers and breaker boxes, according to blueprints, schematic drawings and sketches. • Install and inspect wiring and fixtures to ensure compliance with local electrical codes and standards. • Use test equipment such as voltmeters and ohmmeters to ensure proper installation and function. • Works from various sources, including written work orders, oral instructions, blueprints, layouts, sketches, specifications, emails, and digital communications. • Furnishes cost estimates for proposed new construction and repair jobs. • Anticipates and plans for ongoing maintenance and repairs in advance of critical situations to prevent critical system failures. • Plans, assigns, and schedules work for electricians, electrician trainees, and HVAC technicians; assigns priorities to work projects accordingly. • Secures necessary tools, equipment, supplies and materials. • Trains and enforces safety procedures and precautions to maintain a safe work environment. • Tracks and plans for equipment maintenance, repairs, and inventory management. • Mentor and coach team members with varying technical skills and abilities. • Keeps time and material records and assigns priorities to work projects. • Coordinates the use of available equipment to maximize productivity and convenience. • Investigates and addresses complaints and endeavors in a professional and courteous team-focused manner with colleagues in the City and with the Public. • Performs other duties as required. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES • Knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used in the work assigned. • Knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of buildings and electrical systems to the component level, boiler and chilled water systems, HVAC and associated building environmental controls, street lighting, telecommunication system(s) and lift station operation and monitoring controls. • Ability to work under adverse conditions (heat, cold, inclement weather) and be able to perform manual labor (digging, heavy lifting, etc.). • Ability to work at heights well above ground level from/out of various types of equipment. • Ability to establish and maintain professional, cooperative, team-focused and effective relationships with team members, other agencies, other departments, leaders and the general public. • Ability to make critical decisions, with little supervision in day-to-day operations as well as in emergency situations. • Knowledge of the methods, practices and techniques used in the work assigned. • Knowledge of the materials, tools and equipment used in the work assigned. • Knowledge of the occupational hazards and safety precautions necessary in the work assigned. • Ability to understand and transmit verbal, written and digital instructions. • General and technical knowledge of the methods, practices, techniques, materials, tools, and equipment used in the maintenance and repair of building and electrical systems to the component level, boiler and chilled water systems, air conditioning and associated building environmental controls, street lighting, telecommunication systems and lift station operation and monitoring controls. • Graduation from high school or possession of an acceptable equivalent diploma. • Five (5) years’ experience as a journeyman electrician preferred. • Florida Class B CDL License, with air brake endorsement, (or ability to obtain within twelve months (12) months of employment). A comparable amount of training and/or experience may be substituted for the minimum qualifications. (Megohmmeter, voltmeter, ohmmeter, amp meter, laptop, etc.) • Using Maximo software, logs all job tasks, work assignments, and corrective actions daily. • Performs other miscellaneous duties and tasks as assigned. • Must be able to work rotating schedules, which may include nights and weekends, and work flexible hours and overtime as needed.
