Journeyman Carpenter

Primary Function: Working from blueprints or instructions from supervisors, layout, measuring, marking, and arranging materials in accordance with local building codes. Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. Duties/Responsibilities: • Measures, marks, and arranges materials to established layout based on blueprints or instructions from supervisors. • Cuts and shapes structures, forms, or other fixtures from wood, metal, plastic, fiberglass, or drywall. • Uses various hand and power tools to securely build assigned projects. • Joins materials with the most appropriate nail, screw, staple, or adhesive. • Ensures the accuracy of work by checking completed projects with tools such as levels, or framing squares; corrects problems as needed. • Creates wooden forms for pouring concrete, strikes and finishes concrete, run concrete machine • May erect and dismantle scaffolding • Installs doors and hardware, siding, trim and suspended ceilings. • Adheres to local building and safety codes and guidelines. • Operates equipment such as SkyTrak and Bobcat. • Assists in training Apprentice level employees • Follows all safety requirements • Consistent on-site attendance is a requirement of the job. Requires some travel within the State of Michigan. • Performs other related duties as assigned. Qualifications: • Ability to understand directions and read blueprints. • Ability to solve mathematical problems quickly and accurately. • Ability to properly care for and use tools of the trade. • Thorough understanding of carpentry principles and methods. • Works well as part of a team. Education and/or Experience • High School Degree or Equivalent • Successful completion of vocational school or technical college or apprenticeship program; OR at least four years of experience via on-the-job training required. Language Skills • Ability to read, analyze and interpret blueprints using English language • Ability to respond effectively to inquiries or complaints. • Ability to work as a team to complete projects Physical Demands: • Prolonged periods standing, climbing, bending, and kneeling. • Must be able to safely work with sharp tools or power equipment. • Must be able to work in a variety of weather conditions and terrains. • Must have manual dexterity, a good sense of balance, and excellent hand-eye coordination. • The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision; distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. • Subject to variable weather conditions inside and outside of buildings • Ability to work at various heights that can be several floors high Work Environment: • The employee is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration. • The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at office and construction job sites. • Must use safety equipment (PPE) where warranted.
