Builder Apprentice/Builder Advanced Instructor

Overview: Please note that this position is contingent upon the successful award of a contract currently under bid. Dedicated to serving those who defend the US and warfighters, Nisga’a MOSTT offers Military Operations support and Specialized Tactical Training (MOSTT). Nisga’a MOSTT’s services include aviation and military training, cybersecurity, intelligence gathering and analysis, and simulation and exercise support, as well as aviation flight logistics support and unmanned aerial vehicle support. Summary: The Builder Apprentice/Builder Advanced Instructor shall provide qualified instructors to provide training in the basic technical knowledge and basic practical skills in preparation for immediate usefulness as a Structural Apprentice for all Navy Seabee, Army and Air Force personnel requiring basic apprenticeship training. Responsibilities: Essential Job Functions: • Provide instruction in the use of builder tools. Contractor shall provide instruction in the selection of equipment and materials used in manufacturing woodshop projects; erecting light frame structures, suspended ceiling tile, hot tar roofing, three tab composition shingles, concrete masonry structure, concrete forms, windows to doorjambs and casting to scope. • Provide instruction in installing, finishing drywall, installing door jambs with casing, installing baseboard and molding, installing composition floor tile and ceramic tile. • Provide instruction in the preparation and application of paint. • Provide instruction in mixing, transporting, placing and finishing concrete. • Provide instruction in concrete and masonry construction principles and techniques to include site layout, forming “D” reinforcement placement and finishing, construction using concrete masonry units (CMU) block, lay-out and estimating. • Provide in-depth instruction in Rough Carpentry framing principles and techniques that cover the following areas; floors, walls, roof frames and trusses. • Provide in-depth instruction in interior and exterior finishes that incorporate the following areas; drywall, doors and windows, painting, ceilings, exterior finishes, stairs, interior trim and roofing applications. • Provide in-depth instruction to builders E-3 and above in the knowledge and skills required to perform Heavy Timber Bridge construction. Instruction includes care for and use of an Engineer’s Level, develop sketches, layout, assemble and erect Heavy Timber construction projects using tools, equipment and materials from the Bridge and Dock Builders Tool Kit 80041. • Provide in-depth instruction to builders E-2 to E-6 in the basic knowledge and skills required to plan and estimate materials, direct and assist in the safe conduct of NCF pile-driving operations using common pile-driving rigs using all types of piles. Instruction shall include appropriate High-Risk safety training. • Prepare simple drawings and construction specifications. Make accurate estimates of materials, equipment, and manpower requirements using the NAVFAC P-405. • Establish and maintain a standard pile-driving log. Observe pile-driving operations. • Provide in-depth instruction to E-1 and above personnel leading to a Hilti Operators License. Instruction shall include the following in accordance with approved Hilti technical and tool operation manuals, safety, operations, cleaning and preventive maintenance on Hilti low velocity powder actuated tools to include only the 451 and 460 powder actuated tools. • Due to class size and safety requirements, the BU-A course requires 2 instructors be present for each day of instruction from commencement of the course until graduation. There is no waiver for the 2-instructor requirement for the BU-A course of instruction. Qualifications: Necessary Skills and Knowledge: • Proficiency in a wide range of construction techniques, tools, and equipment. • Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to engage and motivate students. • Knowledge of building codes, safety standards, and best practices in construction. • Organizational and time management skills to balance instructional and administrative responsibilities. Minimum Qualifications: • Minimum of 5 years of experience in the construction industry, including advanced-level work in specialized building techniques. • Shall have documented experience in light frame structure, suspended ceiling tile, hot tar roofing, three-tab composition shingles, concrete masonry structure, installing/finishing drywall, preparing/installing doors and casing, baseboard/molding, installing composite floor tile, ceramic tile, painting, mixing, transporting, placing and finishing concrete at a master level.
